Rathowen is a well-regarded holiday cottage in Beadnell, praised for its comfortable accommodation, excellent location by the sea, and well-equipped facilities. Guests have enjoyed multiple stays, appreciating the property's spaciousness, sea views, and suitability for family holidays. While some minor maintenance issues and cleanliness concerns were noted, the overall sentiment remains positive, with many looking forward to returning.
Most guests found Rathowen clean and comfortable. However, a few reviews mentioned issues such as dusty skirting boards, a stained ceiling, and potential bed bugs, suggesting room for improvement in cleanliness standards.
The location is highly praised, being right by the seafront with lovely views, close to the beach, and within easy reach of local attractions. It serves as an ideal base for exploring Northumberland.
Guests consistently describe the house as comfortable, warm, and spacious, with very comfy beds and a cosy atmosphere, making it perfect for a relaxing stay.
The property is well-equipped, with a particularly well-furnished kitchen and additional amenities like a snooker table. Some guests noted minor maintenance issues and suggested the addition of a tumble dryer, indicating that while facilities are generally good, there is some scope for improvement.
While guests have mentioned thoughtful touches such as Christmas treats, there is not enough consistent information about such gestures to accurately score this category. It should be noted that while these personal touches are appreciated, they are not guaranteed for every stay.

This attractive and peaceful harbour village is situated beside one of the most beautiful stretches of Northumberland’s Heritage Coastline - Beadnell Bay. Established in Saxon times, Beadnell was once an important fishing village and a smuggler's haven. Nowadays, it is still a fishing village, but is equally popular with holidaymakers who come to enjoy its pretty harbour and, of course, the nearby sandy beaches. The village has a shop, two pubs and a café serving food. Popular Seahouses is just over a mile away and has shops, a supermarket and restaurants, and it also offers boat trips from the harbour to the magnificent Farne Islands - a haven for bird watchers. Bamburgh is close by, whilst the market town of Alnwick with its Castle and Gardens, shops, pubs and restaurants is a short drive away.

There are several areas that need addressing. The most fundamental issue is shower water poors down the kitchen window and on to the window sill. I suspect, but did not carefully investigate, that the main bathroom shower door seal is poorly fitted and tends to fall off the bottom of the door. The second issue is black mold growing in multiple sites in the ensuite shower, the mold sites were in place over 12 months ago when we first rented the property last year. Please add a laundry tumble drier to the utility room. Drying clothes on radiators is difficult with a young family.

Great location for visiting all the surrounding areas and lots of lovely places for eating out locally. Weather was very kind to us for November and we were able to sit out on the great balcony. Very well equipped kitchen but getting ready for a few replacement items but still can't wait for our next visit. Will be back again in 2025. Thank you.

The snooker table in the garage was a hit with both the big kids and little kids, while the balcony was lovely to sit and watch the sunrise with a cuppa or if you are lucky enough, as we were, to see the Northern lights and meteor shower. All in all a lovely property and not too far away from Alnwick, Bamburgh, Lindisfarne and all the other places of interest.
