About this property

This contemporary, duplex apartment sits in the coastal idyll of Seahouses, along the charming Northumberland coast. Boasting captivating views with two balconies, Bernicia offers a splendid retreat for families and couples. Step into the open-plan living space, complete with chic furnishings including two swivel chairs and a sofa, along with a Smart TV with Freeview housing a soundbar. Perch on the breakfast bar and keep the designated chef company whilst they prepare a hearty meal. Step out onto the balcony and take in the scene, enjoying a bottle of wine taken from the chiller. The bedrooms rest upstairs and include a master king-size with en-suite shower room, whilst there is also a twin (zip/link which can be super-king-size on request) to make the most of. Get to know the local area; Seahouses is a splendid fishing village and harbour positioned within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so you are well-placed for accessing many delightful walks and hikes, rewarded by some stunning views along the way. Boat trips run daily from here to Farne islands where you can look out for birds and seals. Take off further afield and discover the magnificent castles of Dunstanburgh, Warkworth, Lindisfarne and Cragside, with plenty of towns such as the historic market town of Alnwick and Alnmouth, known for its excellent golf course. Bernicia offers a charming escape for accessing the very best of Northumberland.

The small village of Seaton, near Hornsea has a pub, The Swan Inn, as well as a bus service. The pretty seaside town of Hornsea is situated on the East Coast, with this old Victorian resort offering long, wide, safe sandy beaches and an attractive promenade with well-kept gardens. The bustling town centre has an old-fashioned feel with a good variety of small shops, pubs and cafes, whilst nearby Hornsea Mere is the largest natural lake in Yorkshire and offers sailing, fishing and boat trips. Hornsea Freeport is popular for shopping, whilst Bempton Cliffs rspb reserve can be reached in just over half an hour's drive. Also within driving distance are the historic city of York and Hull, the city of Culture in 2017. Seaton is a lovely base for exploring the area.

Good to have instruction manuals for equipment. Welcome pack appreciated . Kitchen very well equipped. Beds comfortable. Parking can be difficult - not as described . PLEASE ensure that when inputting entry code the "Code" button needs to be pressed FIRST before inputting numbers, as this can be a rather stressful start to the holiday....

Handy for a walk into the village of Seahouses or a stroll around the harbour. Standout features were the extremely comfortable double bed, gated security and the overall cleanliness of the accommodation. The "welcome" book was well thought out and not just a jumble of papers and notes. Two issues gave pause for thought. Control of the heating was remote from the property via an email to the owner, who in fairness responded quickly to a request to "turn it up a bit", as the weather in our first few days was cold and wet. Temperature set points in the living area rose but the bathrooms stayed cool. I feel it should be made clear in the listing that if you park in the designated parking place you will block at least two other spaces so parking is really "first come first served" in the spots provided for visitors. Nothing the owners can do about this but if it gets busy you may have to park in a public car park, for which a complimentary permit is provided. If these issues are of no concern then Bernicia would be a good choice for a holiday destination, with regular boat trips out to the Farne Islands, and Holy Island a little further afield. Sea birds and marine life aplenty.

The combination of good accommodation and location, particularly with the balcony view, makes it hard to imagine anything better in Seahouses. Brilliant!
