Longtown 4.7 miles. The Tower is a luxurious country retreat for up to two people, in the grounds of Kirklinton Hall in Cumbria - a beautiful, atmospheric, and partly ruined country house, dating back to the 17th century, all surrounded by 14 acres of formal gardens, woodland and meadows. As you turn through the gates of Kirklinton Hall, prepare to be transported to another world as the impressive remains of Kirklinton Hall come into full view. The Tower created from part of the Hall’s peel tower, combines many original features with everyday comforts, with stone floors and underfloor heating throughout. Step indoors and be wowed by the quirky living space, with an open-plan kitchen and dining area and a cosy sitting room. A mezzanine floor has been added to accommodate the bedroom with lovely views over the old cobbled courtyard. The kitchen is fully equipped, along with a dining table for relaxed evening meals. Alternatively, sink into the luxurious sofas and either soak up the silence or catch a film on the smart TV. A beautifully appointed bedroom is on offer, a king-size complete with luxurious bed linens and plenty of storage, whilst a sleek and elegant bathroom invites you to indulge in a long shower. Outside you will have access to formal gardens and woodland surrounding the property. Relax in the total tranquillity of the gardens or take a woodland riverside walk, following the tumbling beck until it finally joins a curve of the River Lyne. If you can tear yourself away, you are just a few miles from the Scottish border, and ideally situated for exploring Hadrian’s Wall, the Lake District and Northumberland National Parks, and the Scottish Borders. For an unforgettable stay in a very special property book your next escape at The Tower. Note: This property can be booked with Refs. 1129281 and 1129282, together sleeping up to eight guests. Kirklinton Hall is also a wedding venue, but no weddings will take place when the cottages are booked for holiday breaks.
A delightful, well-stocked town in northern Cumbria that runs alongside the River Esk. Longtown is a fantastic base for a holiday as it comes in the centre of four Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, including Solway Coast aonb, the Northumberland National PPeark, North Pennines aonb and the Lake District National Park. The local area offers a pleasant range of shops, pubs and restaurants for you to choose from. There are some beautiful places nearby, offering even more places to go and things to do. Brampton and Carlisle are nearby with beautiful buildings. As Longtown is so close to Scotland, it would be rude not to visit Dumfries and Galloway. Edinburgh and Glasgow are just over an hours drive away.

The underfloor heating downstairs was very effective & the furnishings & bed were very comfortable. It would make a perfect base for anyone wanting to explore the border region & is less than half an hour from the nearest substantial sections of Hadrianâs Wall. Thoroughly recommended.

The old building was an inspired blend of old and new . A thoughtful welcome basket was waiting us on arrival . The gardens and hall itself were beautiful . Canât wait to see it fully restored . The history of the hall itself is an interesting read . All this led to what we were looking for a peaceful , relaxing , calming break in unique surroundings thank you we will definitely return x

I also really liked the quality of bedding, soaps and carpet. The tap water is good too, not as soft as where I am but tasted nice. It's in the welcome guidance book but not here online that there is no / very patchy mobile signal, I think wifi is through starlink? So most people with a smartphone will be fine. And I did get signal better from one windowsill, texts came through ok. If I were to visit again I'd try and call ahead with Susan's Farm Shop for local food or find a local market day. But Houghton Garden Centre has everything you could need, including local honey. Tourist Info at Carlisle were helpful.
