About this property

The Museum is a homely cottage situated in the heart of Nenthead, within the stunning North Pennines National Landscape, Cumbria. Perfect for families or groups of friends, this delightful retreat offers off-road parking for one car, a freestanding bath, a highchair and a travel cot providing a convenient base for exploring the area's natural beauty. Park up the car and walk along the cobbled pavement to your new abode. Open the picket fence and enter this charming cottage. Upon entering the property, you'll be greeted by an inviting sitting room, complete with a Smart TV, perfect for those relaxing evenings in. The room is beautifully accented with beams and a wooden fireplace, with logs stacked on either side for a homely effect. Moving through the property, you'll find a well-equipped stylish kitchen/diner, ready for you to prepare your favourite meals. Throw your dinner and dessert in the double oven, or whisk something up on the hob, set within a charming wooden beamed alcove. The space is perfect for gathering together and enjoying a home-cooked feast at the dining area after a day of exploring the local area. When it's time to retire for the evening, choose from one of the three inviting bedrooms. The property boasts two double bedrooms and a single bedroom, all tastefully decorated and offering a serene retreat for a night of rest. The property also features an elegant bathroom, complete with a freestanding bath and spacious walk-in shower, perfect for a relaxing soak after a day of adventures. Outside, you'll find an enclosed front garden with a patio and furniture, ideal for enjoying a morning coffee in this peaceful village. The Museum is a delightful base for your next Cumbrian adventure. Unearth the rich history of North Pennines as you set out to explore one of England's most iconic landmarks, Hadrian's Wall. Spend a day at the remarkable Roman town of Vindolanda, delving into the mysteries of the past and marvelling at the well-preserved Roman architecture. Further expand your knowledge at The Sill: National Landscape Discovery Centre, which provides a wealth of information about the landscape's natural and cultural heritage. Just a short drive away, you can make your way to the intriguing Killhope Lead Mining Museum, where you can learn more about the area’s mining history with its fascinating exhibits and on-site activities. Local to the cottage, The Cumberland Hotel in Alston is an inviting pub, with outside seating available and appetising food. Alston boasts a 9 hole golf course, where visitors are welcome. Back at base, recall the day's adventures with your loved ones in the comfort of The Museum, your idyllic home away from home in the heart of Nenthead.

Nenthead is one of the highest villages in England and has a rich mining history. Many mines still remain which are open to the public and waiting to be discovered. The village was also the first to have electric street lighting due to the excess power created by the mining industry. This is a fantastic base for those looking to explore the area as the village has a pub, restaurant, shop/Post Office, children’s play area and a church set in an elevated position. There are a number of attractions available in the nearby area including taking a ride on one of the lovingly-restored steam and diesel engines through the beautiful scenery of the South Tyne valley on the South Tynedale Railway. The River Tyne is also noted as one of the finest salmon rivers in England and day-ticket fishing is available locally. With the entire North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on your doorstep you will need to return again and again to the area to explore everything there is on offer.
