For a more bustling village, Alston is a short journey away, with pubs, restaurants and cafes to enjoy, historic cobbled streets to explore and local specialities to try. A little further south west lies Melmerby, a small village at the foot of the Pennine scar that boasts picturesque views, winding streams and sits at the edge of Eden Valley for spectacular walks. Just beyond Melmerby, you will find Penrith, a busy town known for its impressive 14th century castle, Roman Museum houses to discover local history and plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling, fishing and canoeing, as well as cinemas, leisure and cultural centres.
