Ulverston is a historic market town with a cobblestone main street. It has a diverse range of independent stores, cafés, and pubs, many of which have open fires and serve real ales. There is a wide range of dining options available, from gourmet dining to classic pub fare. Ulverston is also noted for its festivals, which include everything from flags and walks to art and music festivals in the summer, as well as the famed Dickensian Christmas celebration in late November. It is the birthplace of Stan Laurel and the world record holder for the largest foam pie battle in the world, providing a look into the lively neighbourhood. There are gorgeous countryside and wonderful walks near the town, with views of the southern Lake District and Morecambe Bay. The deepest, widest, and shortest canal in the world, it provides for a pleasant afternoon stroll with views over the sea and a tavern at the end. All of the National Park's attractions are also easily accessible. The Furness Coast is known for its sandy beaches and excellent birdwatching opportunities.
