Complaint raised with Sykes following unsuccessful liason with the owner - we'd held off putting feedback but feel time is passing without a resolution & owner felt we had value for money - which had it been clean & fit for hire we'd have agreed with. We wish we'd refused to stay on first arriving. The issues weren't all initially visible & occurred across our 2 night stay. Initial contact number on night 1 didn't ring -since found out they were overseas. Issues included, but not limited to: Porch door feeling warped & insecure; main door unable to be bolted (missing bolt latch on 1, too stiff on other); carpet extremely frayed & sticking up on door threshold causing a trip hazard; Bedding: no pillow protectors, yellow stained old pillows, main bedroom bed appeared slept in (owner disputed this on contact night 2 when found - as guest was immunocompromised they werent willing to take the risk, given the other issues found); mattress was very stained & marked - we didnt inspect them all ; towels were old & hard - we went & brought towels as they were that bad; bathmat: after my friend had used the shower, she lifted the bathmat onto the bath & other user's pubic hairs & dust flew all over the bath; significant cobwebs with dust & dirt on them - obvious they're being missed as part of cleaning routine; outdoor furniture warped & covered in bird poo & cobwebs - cushions covered in mildew marks & stored on top of the outdoor toilet behind rubbish; droppings found on hall mat under the loft hatch; dirty marks around back door, dust & cobwebs inside kitchen cupboards; broken rocking chair arm; rusty, dirty barbecue; thistles waist high. We have supporting photographs for these issues which have been shared with the owner. Overall felt neglected and apparent it is a remote owner. Such a shame - it could be lovely with some investment in new bedding & towels, improved deep cleaning & general maintenance, but it really overshadowed & dominated our stay after finding one thing after another. Reluctantly adding this review after a lack of ownership of our experience & issues. We sought to give offline feedback first and an opportunity to resolve, as we understand how damaging poor reviews can be. We are waiting for Sykes to contact us regarding the issues we encountered.
