Just 7 miles north of Bakewell, there are plenty of walks available from the door, and Grindleford train station, just over 1 mile from the cottage, makes this a great base for exploring. It also offers a direct service to both Manchester and Sheffield, as well as uniquely being home to a café which processes and sells Grindleford Spring Water. Just a stone’s throw from the cottage is a superb pub serving local food, where you can take advantage of discounted breakfast, lunch and evening meals, or take part in the regular pub quiz.
Just 5 minutes away is the village of Hathersage, most famous for its associations with Robin Hood and the Eyre family, as well as being home to an open-air swimming pool, which is now open all year round. The fascinating plague village of Eyam is around 10 minutes away, and the ever popular market town of Bakewell, which is home to the traffic-free Monsal Trail, and the magnificent Chatsworth House are around 15 minutes. Romantic Haddon Hall can be reached in around 25 minutes, Matlock and Matlock Bath, with its cable car to the Heights of Abraham, is around 30 minutes, and Britain’s premier theme park, Alton Towers, can be reached in around an hour.
