Located on the outskirts of the Peak District and only a few miles from Matlock, Wirksworth is a small but charming market town. During the month of May, Wirksworth celebrates the distinctive Derbyshire tradition of Well Dressing by combining it with a colourful carnival. Every year in September, the city hosts an annual Arts festival with a fantastic Art & Architecture Trail, presenting contemporary art and a wide variety of foreign performers. There's a variety of restaurants to try, as well as a small, independent cinema decorated in art deco style. The Eco Centre, the National Stone Centre, and the Mount Cook Adventure Centre are only some of the recreational facilities available in town. Fresh vegetables and handiwork are sold in the weekly market and the monthly farmers' market. Matlock Bath, with its amazing cable car, the historic Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, and Gulliver's Kingdom are also within driving distance. Two miles away in Cromford is the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, which should not be missed. When it comes to vacation destinations, Wirksworth checks all the boxes.
