Utterly wonderful are about the only words I can use to describe Croft Cottage in its brilliant location on the edge of attractive Taddington village. This superbly furnished and decorated cottage, formed from an old stone barn, combines every luxury with lots of original features like exposed stone walls, stripped wood doors, beamed ceilings, an old stone fireplace and glowing log burning stove.
Set amidst rolling fields, the cottage is just a two minute stroll out of Taddington, which is a 'real' village with the 'Queens Head' and 'Waterloo' pubs, and footpaths radiating in all directions. Head off across the tops of the 'Peak' along the Limestone Way or down into Millers Dale and Monsal Dale with the river Wye splashing over the waterfalls in the valley.
When your feet are tired you can always visit Bakewell or Buxton, Chatsworth House and Carsington reservoir, Edensor and Eyam villages and Haddon and Hardwick Halls, which are just a short drive away. But save a bit of time to visit Treeline's jewellery in Bakewell, Hartington's fantastic cheese shop, Rowsley's incredible craft workshops and all the designer label factory outlets around Alfreton.
