About this property

A lovely, detached stone cottage in the heart of Peak Forest, near the town of Buxton, boasting style and charm in a traditional home. The cobbled access pleasantly leads you straight into the well-presented kitchen, attached to which is a lovely open-plan sitting room with a dining area set for four and sumptuous seating arrangements around the TV. This makes the perfect social space for dining and entertaining friends during an enjoyable visit. Finished to a nice standard, the two delightful bedrooms ooze character among the classic furnishings. The king-size double bed sits under the eaves of the roof, with a skylight directly above for you to enjoy some romantic stargazing on a clear summers' night, whilst the double room enjoys a vaulted ceiling with dark wooden beams off-set with whitewashed walls. Out on the patio you can enjoy an afternoon over drinks with a light breeze drifting through the garden; the shared access takes you through to a patchwork of verdant fields beyond the enclosed farm land. Countryside encompasses the property so you can get lost in the natural surround, whilst the road at the end of the drive takes you directly into Peak Forest, where you can delight in the Devonshire Arms local pub and gain a real taste for countryside living. Nearby you can visit the pretty villages of Edale and Castleton and there are horse riding and cycling opportunities in Hathersage, should they take your fancy. There are walking opportunities wherever you turn and excellent pubs to stop at along the way. Barn Cottage is an accommodating property from which to enjoy many an attraction with the family.

The village of Peak Forest is situated in the heart of the Peak District National Park, boasting an excellent pub. The village is named for the Royal Forest of the Peak, which was an open area used as a royal hunting park rather than a forested area. Eldon Hole, one of the seven wonders of the Peak, is surrounded by walking country. Nearby are the villages of Edale, the start of the Pennine Way, Castleton, with four caverns to visit, the ‘plague’ village of Eyam, and Tideswell, where the church is regarded as the cathedral of the Peak. Enjoy a day out at Alton Towers or visit the Chatsworth House estate, Haddon Hall, or the house and gardens at Lyme Park, all within easy reach.

The cottage has everything you need for a relaxing stay. The owners were very welcoming on our arrival which was lovely. The large field behind the cottage was certainly a big hit with our dog with the amazing scenery being as much of a hit for us. Can't wait to return!

Although the cottage is on a main road, we were not affected by the noise of the traffic! The thick solid walls of the character building we stayed in provided calm and warmth in a beautiful countryside setting. We loved it

A very warm welcome from both Jane & John who walked me through the house to run me through the operation of the heating, shower, cooking appliances etc and then left us alone to enjoy the peaceful break that we were looking, with the reassurance that they were just next door, or on the end of a phone, had anything untoward happened. I have hired maybe 15-20 cottages over the years and this has got to be one of the best, if not the best. We were holiday sitting my brother's dog and can truly say that the enclosed garden truly was as advertised and the adjacent field where he could run to his heart's content was superb - my own late dog would have loved such facilities which in the past have not delivered in full. Mum wanted to stay another week and if work hadn't been a factor I'd have happily extended our stay - the place was spacious and homely and four people would have more than enough space. Some of the feedback for this property left me a little apprehensive but I'm glad that it didn't dissuade me from booking. The owner can only be honest with the advert and if they tell you there is no wi-fi or it's adjacent to (at times) a busy road then don't complain when you arrive to find just that. Phone signal was excellent though, and so it should be at 1250ft above sea level, so internet access on my smartphone was not an issue. I'd love to return to this gem in the Peak District
