About this property

An absolutely delightful Grade II listed terraced cottage, built around 1810, in the hamlet of Ravensdale, set overlooking a winterbourne stream and valley on the outskirts of the pretty village of Cressbrook in the Peak District National Park. Beautifully appointed throughout to provide cosy accommodation, bursting with charm, this cottage is the perfect romantic retreat in this beautiful, seemingly remote Peak District setting. At this quirky cottage you will find lovely tiled floors, interesting original features and a character woodburning stove to light after a busy day of exploration. This is a great base to just relax and soak up the character of this mill workers cottage, where you are surrounded by beams and lovely mullioned windows, and can enjoy a pretty, modern en-suite bedroom with ornamental fireplace. Outside is a delightful little garden with split-level patio, surrounded by lovely planted areas and overlooking the stream, the limestone crag and the valley; a perfect spot for a drink at any time of the day! Ravensdale is located on the edge of Cressbrook, in the White Peak, where the River Wye joins Cressbrook Dale after flowing through some lovely gorges. The village lies just north of the Monsal Trail, which is a short walk from the cottage door. Cressbrook Dale is a National Nature Reserve with some species of rare flowers to be found off the beaten track. Closer to home, you can watch ravens on the crag from the cottage garden, and if you are lucky, you may see peregrines soaring high above the valley. Ravensdale appears to be remote, tucked away down a narrow single track lane, in a peaceful hidden valley, surrounded by woodland and an imposing limestone crag. Yet close to your cottage is the pretty village of Litton with an excellent pub serving food, while a little further afield is Tideswell, home to the Cathedral of the Peak and some wonderful little shops, including a butcher, a baker and a pharmacy.

Plenty of places await discovery including Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Eyam Hall and the two market towns of Buxton and Bakewell. Both towns have a good selection of shops and excellent restaurants and you can even take a container and fill it with real Buxton water, direct from St Anne's Well. All in all, a wonderful Peak District cottage to enjoy at any time of the year.

Cressbrook is a village on the River Wye, home to a mill built in the 18th century by Richard Arkwright. A footpath upstream of Cressbrook Mill leads to Water-cum-Jolly, a river gorge with limestone cliffs ideal for walking and rock climbing. Cressbrook is on the Monsal Cycle Trail and there is also a good pub in the nearby village of Litton, which serves food. Tideswell, Bakewell and the Spa town of Buxton are all within easy reach.
