The property's location is appreciated for its proximity to local amenities and transport links, making it an excellent base for exploring East Sussex. The terrace is a highlight for many, offering a pleasant outdoor space. Some minor issues with the key safe and heating instructions were noted, but these did not detract significantly from the overall positive experience.

The property is repeatedly described as very clean, with several guests highlighting its cleanliness. One review mentioned the entrance had cobwebs, but this seems an isolated comment not reflective of the overall feedback.

The location is well-regarded for its quietness, proximity to the seafront, shops, and restaurants, as well as transport links for exploring the area. Some guests noted the uphill return from the seafront and potholes, but these were minor concerns.

Many reviews mention the comfort of the beds and the homely feel of the property. One guest found the settee uncomfortable, but overall, the property is considered comfortable and spacious.

Facilities are generally well-received, with the property being well-equipped and tastefully decorated. Some guests experienced difficulties with the key safe and a lack of heating instructions, indicating room for improvement in maintenance and information provided.

There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score in this category.

About this property

Magpies is a ground-floor apartment located in 1066 country, in the centre of St Leonards-on-Sea, a busy town in East Sussex right by Hastings. With high ceilings, multi-coloured original stained-glass windows, a bright and spacious living/dining room, a well-equipped kitchen, and a private terrace that looks out onto a beautiful garden, the apartment sleeps three and is ideal for a coastal getaway. Plan things to do and places to visit during your stay over a coffee or a leisurely breakfast on the terrace - there are usually birds (especially magpies!) as well as squirrels in the trees to keep you company, and you might even spot the odd fox. Head down towards the beach and seafront promenade to soak up some sun, or perhaps take a stroll along to Hastings Pier. Winner of the pier of the year award in 2017, it plays host to all sorts of open-air events, and you’ll find an observatory platform as well as a range of stalls and restaurants. A great place for watching the sun sink into the sea in the evening. If you fancy a spot of shopping, nearby Norman Road has some interesting shops and a slightly Bohemian vibe, and right next door in London Road you’ll find a Co-op for your groceries, an artisan bakery and a place that sells organic fruit and veg. The Old Town with its antique shops, Elizabethan houses and characteristic wooden fishing huts is worth checking out, or if you fancy some fresh air and exercise surrounded by lovely countryside and great views, you have Hastings Country Park. Battle, where the Battle of Hastings actually took place, is just a short drive (or train journey) away. Visit the battlefield itself and Battle Abbey to immerse yourself in local history, and the village has some traditional pubs that are a good choice if you fancy a drink or a meal. Rye is another lovely little town just along the coast within easy reach by car or by train, and slightly further afield you have Sissinghurt Castle with its gorgeous gardens. For children, you’ll find a small aquarium where they can get up close and personal with some of the inhabitants, and a visit to the Smugglers’ Adventure caves is always a hit with the smallest members of the family. Choose Magpies as your base and enjoy all this and much more.

East Sussex's St Leonards-on-Sea is a town and seaside resort with three miles of shingle beach, a promenade with a bike path, and a bustling town centre. It's a terrific place for a coastal family vacation or an action-packed weekend escape. With its unique blend of Regency structures and gardens, the town exudes a lovely vintage vibe. It also enjoys a superb location for viewing the local sites in Hastings and Battle. You may find a variety of independent stores throughout the town, including hip cafés, trendy emporiums, designer markets, restaurants serving international cuisine, and traditional pubs. The town's attractions include a beautiful beach, a pier with an observatory platform, and the Hastings Museum & Art Gallery, while kids will love the Blue Reef Aquarium, Flamingo Park, and Smugglers Adventure's underground tunnel exploration to follow in the footsteps of smugglers. The Sussex coastline's St Leonards-on-Sea promises to be a fantastic getaway.

The apartment had everything we needed and was well located to explore the area. We did find that seafront was not far away although it was all up hill coming back plus the roads are in a poor state with lots of sizeable potholes, it is what it is.

Although weather was nice some evenings were chilly, no instructions for heating although other guests had said same owner said would put instructions for heating but no instructions. Flat was nice but settee was not comfortable. The entrances before you got into flat were dirty and full of cobwebs not a welcoming sight . The flat was local to places we visited and free parking, that was a good benefit. I would give it 3 star has did have terrace to sit out which was nice.

The type of dwelling with high ceilings and individual style of furniture ( but very nicely and tasteful arranged), was different than some holiday accommodation we stayed in the past. As matter of fact it felt very homely and we would have been happy staying there for a longer time. We enjoyed sitting on the terrace watching a pair of foxes at the top of the garden below. The kitchen was well appointed and easy to work in. Due to some recent spinal problem of mine I hand to sleep some nights in the second bedroom and can confirm that both beds are very comfortable. Despite the road along the park being always fully parked up, we had no problem all week long finding a parking spot right near the house. We liked that the owners send us a welcome email with an pdf giving us advance information about the place. As we like to travel and explore different places, we tend to seldom return , however this could be one of the exceptions. Thank you for providing us with a very nice holiday home.
