Situated in magnificent grounds overlooking the river Arun is Arundel Castle, one of the most well-preserved castles in the country. Medieval festivals, jousting tournaments, history weekends, open air theatre and plant fairs take place throughout the year.  The river Arun, which gives the town its name, flows through Arundel and can be used for kayaking, canoeing and stand-up paddle boarding or simply follow the walking trail along the river to Amberley Castle, located in the picturesque village of Amberley at the foot of the South Downs.
