Within easy driving distance are the charming fishing village of Mevagissey and the historic harbour town of Charlestown, home to a magnificent fleet of square riggers, or tall ships as they are better known. The chic waterside town of Fowey is approximately nine miles from Porthpean and a day in the town is a must. Nearby and with excellent views over the sea and the surrounding countryside is the Porthpean Outdoor Education Centre and campsite offering everything from high and low ropes courses to kayaking and archery. Porthpean parish church is dedicated to St Levan and there is a golf club and a sailing club based there, and from where it is a short and easy walk north along the coast path to Charlestown
