Known for its clean water and brilliant surf conditions, those who fancy hitting the water can hire surfboards, SUPs and wetsuits from several surf schools like St Ives Surf School based on Porthmeor Beach. Porthminster Beach is a 20-minute walk, or a 5-minute drive away and is a good all-rounder for the whole family with its popular beach café, where you can enjoy a cold drink and watch the waves roll in.
Of course, if you prefer to stay in the dry, you can stroll the coast path, sunbathe or build sandcastles on one of several sandy stretches in the area, like Gwithian, Porthkidney Sands and Carbis Bay. Nearby, Trewyn Sub Tropical Gardens and The Barbara Hepworth Studio and Garden offer terrific days out with the family.
