Guests say

The Whistler apartment in St. Ives is praised for its cleanliness, stunning views, and prime location. Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches and the property's suitability for dogs. While some mention issues with maintenance and comfort, the overall experience is positive, with many looking forward to returning.

The property is consistently described as very clean, with several reviews commending the housekeeper's efforts. However, a few mentions of mould and a dirty whirlpool bath slightly affect the score.

The location is highly praised for its views and proximity to the town and beaches, though the steep paths to access these areas are noted. The challenging terrain may not suit everyone.

Guests find the apartment warm and comfortable with a well-equipped kitchen. However, there are several complaints about beds, a clear ensuite door, and noise disturbances, which suggest room for improvement in comfort.

The facilities, including a spacious balcony and a fully equipped kitchen, are appreciated. Nonetheless, reports of maintenance issues such as a leaky window, a temperamental lock, and a detached fridge door lower the score.

Guests mention thoughtful gestures like treats for dogs and fresh flowers, which contribute to a welcoming atmosphere. However, it is politely noted that such gifts, while delightful, are not guaranteed.

About this property

This two-bedroom, first-floor apartment, Whistler, has excellent views over St Ives and is located in the Barnoon neighbourhood at Tate Reach. This pet-friendly apartment sleeps four people plus an infant and welcomes a medium-sized dog, making it ideal for a family getaway to the coast. The town centre, Tate St Ives, scenic railway routes, and the beautiful Porthmeor Beach are all within easy reach of Whistler. With cast iron vintage radiators, lofty ceilings, a Victorian feature fireplace, and a picture bay window, this apartment on the first floor of this Victorian house has been painstakingly refurbished in keeping with its original features. The bright and spacious open-plan sitting and dining space, which is bathed with natural light and furnished with exquisite historical pieces, offers a breath-taking view of St Ives; lie back and soak up the views or enjoy the entertainment on the Smart TV with DVD player and Sky. A historic, drop-leaf dining table with seating for four has been precisely positioned within the living area bay window, providing visitors with a spectacular view while dining, and the table can also be unfolded just for two for a little romance. The modern kitchen is well-equipped with oak cabinets, sleek black granite effect worktops, and a washer/dryer, providing everything you'll need for your getaway; for dining alfresco, it's conveniently located near the back terrace, which can be accessed via French doors that open out onto the far-reaching views. There are two sea view bedrooms, one king-size and the other twin, both well-presented and with en-suites and plenty of storage space. Clean up in the twin’s en-suite bathroom, which features an inviting beautiful P-shaped whirlpool bath or enjoy a quick shower in the king-size bedroom’s en-suite before spending time sitting at the wide bay window with views of the island and out to sea. Hang wet swimming gear and wetsuits on the enclosed decking area's handy, retractable laundry line after a day at the beach, complete with outdoor seats to enjoy a refreshing drink in the sunshine or peacefully read a book. The closest beach is Porthmeor, which is really magnificent; the long stretch of golden sand has been awarded a blue flag for its crystal-clear waters, which are ideal for catching a wave, and it also boasts a surf school and seasonal lifeguard service. If you want to eat out, there is a beachside café directly on the beach, or try the Michelin-starred Porthminster Beach Café. A plethora of cafés and eateries promoting fresh seafood and local vegetables are located around the picturesque harbour on another of the town's wonderful stretches of sand. Explore the stores and galleries that line St Ives' cobblestone streets for a unique present or pay a visit to the Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, all of which are right on your doorstep! Many of St Ives' major beaches are award-winning, so take your dog along the South West Coast Path to Porthkidney Beach, which is pet-friendly all year and has a long stretch of golden sand. A terrific recommendation is to take the scenic railway back to your hotel; it is not only soothing, but also thrilling, since it connects the surrounding area, going beside the beaches and providing panoramic views of the sea. The rides at Flambards in Helston, Camel Creek Adventure Park near Wadebridge, and feeding the animals at Paradise Park near Hayle will be a hit with the kids. Take a family photo at Land's End's iconic signpost or see a performance at the Minack, a local open-air theatre perched on the edge of a Cornish cliff. Alternatively, head to the craggy North Coast to Tintagel Castle, where King Arthur was created with the help of Merlin, or so the story goes, or walk out to the spectacular St Michael's Mount from Penzance at low tide, which is set on its own island. Finally, don't miss the opportunity to walk above the trees in the tropical rainforest of the Eden Project near St Austell. This holiday home is named after James Whistler, a great American artist who was inspired by the beauty of St Ives in 1884 and made it his home; we hope you'll soon learn why and fall in love with St Ives as well!

St Ives is one of Cornwall's most charming port towns. Small streets and tightly packed cottages are nestled around the quayside, whilst the Tate Gallery and Barbara Hepworth museum, fantastic beaches, excellent shops, pubs and restaurants are just some of the attractions. It's easy to see why this is the county's finest tourist resort. Rich wildlife, wonderful coastal walks, top-notch surfing, and Celtic secrets also make this a fantastic location!

However, we encountered several issues this time. The second bedroom had a persistent smell of dampness, which returned despite opening the windows. Additionally, the water in the shower was scalding hot, making it unusable for four days. Although we reported the issue immediately, we only reached an answering machine until after the weekend. The problem was eventually fixed, but it significantly impacted our stay. The apartment was also much noisier than before. We were disturbed by noise from the flat above, where people seemed to be up all night, and from music coming from a nearby bar. Construction work on an adjacent building began very early each morning, and it appears far from complete. Finally, our allocated parking spot was frequently occupied by others, leading to extra parking costs. The owners should make it clearer that the spot is reserved to avoid this inconvenience. Maybe a padlock post may be useful here.
