Pitt Cottage in Branscombe is a tastefully presented, comfortable property that offers a cosy stay. Guests have enjoyed the warmth of the Aga, the picturesque location, and the proximity to the beach and local pub. The charm of the cottage and its setting in Devon make it a delightful choice for a holiday retreat.
The cottage was described as clean and tidy, indicating a high level of cleanliness that guests appreciated.
The location is very picturesque and quiet, with easy access to the beach, coast path, and a nearby pub, making it an ideal setting for a peaceful getaway.
The cottage is cosy and comfortable, though it may feel a bit snug for larger groups. The presence of an Aga adds warmth, but the height restrictions in some areas may affect taller individuals.
The property is well-appointed, but some guests noted a lack of certain necessities and the challenge of cooking on an Aga. The absence of parking outside the property is also noted.
There is no mention of gifts or special amenities that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts, so it is not possible to provide a score in this category.
This stunning property, situated in the pretty village of Branscombe just 1.5 miles from the beach, is perfect for an active holiday in the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Sleeping four adults over two peaceful double bedrooms and four children in a charming bunk bedroom with seaside decor, this gorgeous 18th-century thatched cottage is ideal for two families coming together for an exciting break. Bring the dogs with you and go for walkies along the beach or take a ride on the Seaton Tramway (6.5 miles), or simply soak up the sun in the spacious garden, drinking and dining alfresco.
As soon as you step inside you’ll be impressed by the blend of original features and contemporary styling. Exposed beams and a brick ornamental fireplace in the kitchen diner look fantastic among white walls and neutral tiles, while the electric Aga oven and wooden worktops and dining table offer a superb farmhouse look. Get cosy in the sitting room, lighting the wood burner and curling up on the eclectic mix of sofas and chairs, or catch up on some work or read a book at the table. Store your muddy walking boots in the boot room, with a separate WC close by. Upstairs, peaceful pastel tones, exposed beams and vintage-style furniture in the double bedrooms encourage a great night’s sleep, while kids will love the fantastic beach hut-style bunk bedroom. Traditional fixtures in the bathroom offer a touch of class; take an invigorating shower or a relaxing bath before bed. Travel cot & High chair available (please request at the time of booking, extra fee's apply).
Children will delight in the Donkey Sanctuary (2.5 miles) or Crealy Adventure Park (13 miles); Beer Quarry Caves (2 miles) is a great option too. The beach and Beer Heights Light Railway (3 miles) are also well worth visiting. Take walks along the South West Coast Path from Hooken Cliffs (4 miles), or enjoy a more leisurely stroll around the streets of Branscombe (0.5 miles to centre). For something a bit different, go alpaca trekking with Bearhouse Alpacas (5.5 miles)!

A lovely old cottage in a beautiful area. We were lucky with the weather and the enclosed, sheltered garden was a very pleasant place in which to enjoy in the afternoon sun - for us and the dog. The bedrooms are on the small side, but our bed was very comfortable. Note the stairs are steep, the ceilings and beams low, and the landing is uneven - but these all add to the charm. The only drawback was the parking, which is by the side of the road, away from the cottage - don't come in a very large vehicle!

Great location, nice pubs nearby. Good cottage inside.

Overall very good. It’s very picturesque and we liked the location as it was quiet but accessible to other larger towns. Also we didn’t see anywhere that dogs aren’t allowed upstairs prior to booking which was a bit annoying considering it’s a dog friendly cottage. Don’t think we’d stay again because of it but it didn’t ruin the stay as the location and decor of the cottage was still great.
