Blacksmiths Cottage in UPLYME, Dorset, is praised for its cleanliness, comfortable beds, and well-equipped kitchen. Guests appreciate the welcome pack and the property's proximity to Lyme Regis. Some minor maintenance issues and road noise are noted, but overall, guests enjoy their stay and recommend the cottage.
The cottage receives high marks for cleanliness, with multiple reviews mentioning its very clean condition. There are minor comments about dust, but these do not detract significantly from the overall positive feedback.
The location is generally seen as great, with easy access to Lyme Regis and pleasant walks. However, some guests mention the proximity to a main road as a downside, which slightly affects the score.
Guests find the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy, though there are a few remarks about awkward steps, low sofas, and high beds. Overall, the comfort level is well-regarded.
The cottage is well-equipped, especially the kitchen, but several reviews point out small maintenance issues like loose toilet seats, stiff shower controls, and a lack of information on operating the heating. These issues lead to a slightly lower score.
The welcome pack is frequently mentioned and appreciated, indicating thoughtfulness. However, as not all guests may receive such gifts, it's noted that these are a pleasant addition but not a guaranteed feature.
A beautiful stone cottage resting in the countryside of Uplyme, with easy access to local countryside walks and the bustling town of Lyme Regis. With a fantastic location, Blacksmiths Cottage is perfect for a family who want to explore the Jurassic coast. Be welcomed by the historic exterior of this local stone property, where shrubs add a splash of colour to the doorway and make yourself at home within the wonderful open-plan living space, where a stylish blue sofa invites you to recline beside large windows, and a matching rub and quirky zebra print armchair add a contemporary feel to this space. With white furniture, tiled walls and a great number of home-from-home amenities to cater to your culinary needs, enjoy family cooking and use the dining table or bar space to serve up your masterpiece. The first bedroom can be found on the ground floor; a double with a blue feature wall and storage, and a handy bathroom with a green feature wall and brown tiles, where you can enjoy a relaxing soak amongst the bubbles, and upstairs you will find another double with an en-suite WC. Outside there is a small seating area where you can enjoy coffee in the sunshine before heading out to explore the local area. Close to the property you will find an abundance of countryside walks, including a riverside track leading into the town of Lyme Regis where you can enjoy a hot meal before visiting one of two museums, the Dinosaurland Fossil Museum and the Lyme Regis Museum, enjoy the stunning wildlife at the fantastic Lyme Regis Aquarium and many beaches including the famous Lyme Regis Fossil Beach where you can search for Jurassic treasures amongst the rocky shores. Travel further afield to the Donkey Sanctuary or Axe Valley Wildlife Park, both a great day out for the whole family. You will simply love Dorset with a stay at the wonderful Blacksmiths Cottage.
The beautiful countryside surrounding the village of Uplyme, on the borders of Devon and Dorset, is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, criss-crossed by bridleways and footpaths including the East Devon Way, and providing perfect country walks and superb views. The area was chosen by TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall for his River Cottage HQ at Park Farm, where you can treat yourself to a great meal. Just a short drive takes you to the stunning Jurassic Coast at Lyme Regis. This delightful historic seaside town boasts a maze of narrow streets, with an interesting array of shops and cafes, whilst the sandy beach lends itself to great bathing and watersports, and the bustling little harbour offers regular fishing trips, or try your hand at fossil hunting. The location was convenient with a very pleasant walk by the river into Lyme Regis and quiet country lanes offering the opportunity to explore the area around Uplyme.

Perfect for walkers with easy access to public footpaths. The 2 bathrooms icon is inaccurate as the en-suite upstairs only has a w.c. & basin. All the windows were locked and no keys were in sight. We were optimistic that we wouldn't have a fire and might need to escape but this is far from ideal. Garden unusable due to rubbish bin which doesn't appear in photos and proximity to busy road. Very misleading. Nowhere to hang clothes in downstairs bedroom but plenty of shelves in the cupboards. On a positive note the cottage was clean and beds comfortable.

An extremely comfortable, clean and well equipped and maintained cottage with easy access to the beautiful Dorset and east Devon countryside and coastline. Would certainly recommend the holiday property to others.
