Hillside Cottage is appreciated for its well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and spacious garden, making it a cosy and charming choice for visitors. The rural setting offers picturesque views and a peaceful atmosphere, ideal for those looking to relax and enjoy the countryside.
Mixed feedback on cleanliness, with several guests finding the property clean and tidy, while others noted issues with dog hair, mould, and a damp smell. The property seems to require more consistent attention to detail in cleaning.
The cottage's location is generally praised for its rural charm and proximity to Lyme Regis. However, some guests noted the need for a car and the potential hazards of nearby roads when walking.
Guests find the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy, particularly praising the garden and decking area. Some concerns were raised about dampness and the property being chilly at times.
Facilities are well-regarded, especially the well-stocked kitchen and welcome pack. Some issues with maintenance, such as the quooker tap not working and patchy Wi-Fi, were mentioned.
The welcome pack with coffee, tea, biscuits, and dog treats was a hit with guests, indicating thoughtfulness. However, it should be noted that such gifts are a kind gesture and may not be guaranteed for every stay.

Itâs not made clear that the downstairs shower room was off the conservatory area. Wasnât suitable for family use. The garden wasnât dog friendly due to all the outdoor stairs. The decking was dangerous when wet. I use a walking stick and it was impossible for me to take the dog out into the garden.

There was mould in the corner of the lounge. These cottages are really expensive now and we expect the standard to be perfect. I see the price has been marked down now, we paid full price which was a lot for what we got. Itâs such a shame as the size is great, the garden is good for the dogs, the beds were comfortable and the sofa not bad. Great bedding and towels. Itâs a quiet location with good access to Lyme Regis. There was a welcome pack, much appreciated, especially the coffee. Very well equipped kitchen. With a bit more TLC it could be amazing. I know itâs an old property but damp and mould can be sorted out.

Weather was lovely so we made the most of the wonderful garden area, which the dog also loved. Kitchen very well stocked, lovely welcome pack, really enjoyed the special coffee and biscuits. Facilities as published with lovely showers, great to have walk in one, as upstairs bathroom ceiling quite low. Sun Room was great for relaxing in - a sofa in there would be amazing!. Lounge was chilly/felt damp at times, but in the heat it was appreciated. Lots of small steps in and out of each room, low ceilings did catch my husband out a fair bit, which is part of the character but not good for tall visitors. My teenage daughter loved the back bedroom - sunsets and view! Small point - quite cobwebby in some parts and only clock that worked was in double bedroom. The only downside for walking the dog, was there is no pavement into the village and the B road that runs parallel to the road where the cottage is can be busy and has blind corners, so you could only walk him up the lane, which you still had no pavement. We took him out on long walks from town or nearby areas, of which there are some lovely ones. We really enjoyed our stay though, but you do need a car to go anywhere in our opinion, although Axminster station is not far by car and we did go by train to Exeter for the day. All in all, it was a lovely cottage in a pretty area, great for some downtime. We came back refreshed. Thank you.
