The Thatched Cottage in Devon boasts stunning views and a characterful, cosy ambiance, making it a popular choice for family retreats and group getaways. Guests have praised the property's spaciousness, well-equipped kitchen, and the added luxury of a hot tub. While some guests mentioned areas in need of maintenance and more thorough cleaning, the overall experience is one of relaxation and enjoyment in a beautiful setting.
Reviews indicate that while many guests found the property clean and inviting, there are several mentions of areas needing a deeper clean, dust, and occasional issues with outdoor furniture cleanliness. The property seems to be well-kept in general, but some inconsistency in cleanliness has been noted.
The property's location is generally appreciated for its stunning views and tranquility, despite being near a main road. Some guests noted traffic noise, but many felt it did not detract significantly from the overall experience. The lack of secure areas for dogs and limited walkability from the cottage affected the score.
Guests have found the beds comfortable and the living spaces cosy and inviting. The property's spaciousness allows for large groups to stay comfortably. However, some guests mentioned issues with cold bedrooms and a need for additional blankets, slightly affecting the comfort score.
The property is well-furnished with a fully equipped kitchen and comfortable beds. However, guests have reported maintenance issues such as loose steps, a broken hot tub lid, and outdoor lighting concerns. While the hot tub is a highlight, the need for some repairs and updates is evident.
There are mixed mentions of welcome packs, with some guests receiving them and others not. Due to the inconsistency in reports and the lack of clarity on whether gifts are a standard offering, it is not possible to accurately score thoughtfulness. It should be noted that while some guests were delighted by welcome gestures, they are not guaranteed.

The studio room at the top wasnât up to the standard of the rest of the property. Carpets very dirty, very dusty and cobwebs everywhere you look. The shower was dirty and the vent in shower could do with a thorough clean.. shower also leaked into kitchen . Had to ask for more bed linen and also ask for more light bulbs . In my opinion the cottage is a beautiful place but would not return. We have used Sykes accommodations on 3 previous occasions and have always been very happy and satisfied.

It is good that the property accepts dogs but be prepared to have to put the dogs in the car for any walks as the road outside is very narrow and very busy with all sorts of traffic from cars to large lorries and tractors and with the lack of any pavement it is very dangerous with the speeds these vehicles are travelling. We were very lucky with the weather which enabled us to sit outside and enjoy the fantastic views, Iâm not sure that I would return to this property again though due to the location being right on an A road with constant traffic and the lack of dog walks. I donât know if itâs a standard thing with Sykes cottages but the check in time of 4pm and check out time of 10am is not great in my opinion, it makes the leaving day a rush to get everything done, strip beds etc etc.

The grounds and cottage are beautiful and the views are breathtaking. We particularly loved the old features of the property, especially the wall casts which we believe they possibly date back to the 1600âs but unsure. It would have been nice to have read the history of this beautiful cottage. The property was very clean throughout and very well equipped, although there was some wear and tear and a few stains on the carpets upstairs, it didnât bother our stay at all. The bedrooms were a very good size , the beds were comfortable and accommodated our large family beautifully. The hot tub was hot on arrival and set in a fantastic location on the property. The views from the hot tub are stunning. The welcome pack was a wonderful touch too so thank you very much for that. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed to cook big meals and the added bonus of Sky and the pool/table tennis table kept the kids entertained. We would definitely return to this beautiful property and highly recommend it to anyone.
