The pretty town is a time capsule for the area’s history, with the Museum of Mid Devon Life, a castle, and one of the UK’s last horse-drawn barges. Lovers of the outdoors should explore the gardens and parkland at Knightshayes Court (3.5 miles), and the Grand Western Canal Country Park (6 miles). For younger guests, the Devon Railway Centre (8 miles) and Diggerland Devon (13.5 miles) offer plenty of excitement.
