Highdown is a charming, old-fashioned cottage in Devon with stunning views and a secure garden, ideal for dogs. Guests appreciate its homely feel, cleanliness, and the thoughtful touches like welcome treats. While some find the decor dated, the location and the warmth of the cottage contribute to a relaxing stay. It's a well-loved property that guests are keen to revisit, despite some noting it could benefit from updates.
Reviews are mixed regarding cleanliness. Some guests found the property clean and well-maintained, while others reported issues with dust and cobwebs. The majority, however, did not raise cleanliness as a concern, suggesting a generally acceptable standard.
The location is highly praised for its stunning views and proximity to the beach and local amenities. The steep hill is mentioned, but it does not detract significantly from the overall positive reception of the cottage's location.
Comfort receives a moderate score as guests have mixed feelings. Some found the cottage cosy and homely, while others mentioned that the property could be too small for larger groups and that some of the furniture, like mattresses, could be updated for enhanced comfort.
Facilities are adequate but some guests feel that maintenance and updates are needed. Issues like the WiFi reliability, heating efficiency, and kitchen equipment were noted. However, the presence of an open fire and secure garden are positive aspects.
While some guests mentioned welcome treats such as tea, coffee, and biscuits, there is not enough consistent information across reviews to accurately score thoughtfulness. It should be noted that such gestures are appreciated but not guaranteed.

The cosy interior of this much-loved holiday home has a south-facing conservatory with sea views, ideal for summer breakfasts, plus an open fire in the sitting room for cosy winter afternoons after a walk on the beach with the dog. The spacious kitchen also has a dining area and plenty of space for six people to eat comfortably. There are three bedrooms, two with sea views across the bay, and all sharing a bathroom. Keen walkers will be spoilt for choice here with some of the most spectacular stretches on the South West Coast Path being right on the doorstep. For anyone who can tear themselves away from this idyllic location, the charming towns of Modbury, Salcombe and Kingsbridge are all close by, whilst Plymouth, Dartmouth and the wild open spaces of Dartmoor are also all within easy reach. This delightful cottage offers a perfect seaside getaway for an energetic family.

Grest shower, comfortable bed. A bit unfortunate it was a cold week for September and we couldn't work out the heating.

I arrived and there were cobwebs, dust, hair and spiders all over the property. The toilet had not been cleaned and there was an awful smell across the property. The bath does not work properly and overall the cleanliness of the property was so bad. You are paying a lot of money so it would be more worth staying at the coastguards or any other property than here. Also Sykes themselves are so bad, no customer service no contact nothing. I tried to complain and they have ignored me for weeks on end then just closed the case.

Our only observation was for some instruction for how to operate the cooker and also the TV. Plus a few more kitchen utensils would help, like a large collender, especially if 6 people were occupying the cottage. We would definitely come again.
