About this property
The Colmer Estate is an exclusive collection of 20 holiday cottages set in 28 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds. A range of indoor and outdoor facilities will keep the whole family entertained whatever the weather and include both an indoor and outdoor pool, fitness room, games room, childrens play area and a hard tennis court (bring your own racquets and balls). Please check with the owner to confirm availability. Nearby, are many sandy beaches, including Bigbury on Sea where you can cross the water by sea tractor to explore Burgh Island and its elegant art deco hotel. The popular towns of Salcombe and Dartmouth are both just a short drive away. The original Coach House is now a detached, single storey cottage. A traditional stone building, the open plan living area is bright and contemporary as are the three comfortable bedrooms - a double, a twin and a children's bunk room. From the living area, French doors open on to the patio and front lawn, where you can enjoy the late summer evenings - and glimpses of the pool are visible through the archway of the gatehouse.
The market town of Modbury is in the South Devon aonb, offering shops, pubs and restaurants. Surrounded by fields and near the coast, it's an ideal spot for walkers, cyclists, golfers, sailors and surfers. Explore the South Devon coast with its beaches and coastal path, or visit the nearby estuary towns and villages such as Salcombe, Kingsbridge and Dartmouth. Plymouth and Dartmoor are also both close. A brilliant holiday location at any time of year.

It's a good place to stay with lots of facilities for our now teenage granddaughter and a friend. The outdoor pool is kept clean and is not usually crowded. The booking system for indoor pool seems to work well. The cottage is well equipped and comfortable. As before, we found the fridge and tiny ice box too small. We enjoyed our stay.

We did relay this feedback directly early in our stay but there didn't seem to be a solution, just an acknowledgement that it was an old building. Upon arriving home we had to do about 10 loads of washing to get the smell off all of the clothes/towels etc that had been in the accommodation, even items that hadn't been used, which wasn't ideal. If the underlying issue could be addressed and the property was given a bit of a refresh, we would consider returning, but not if the necessary work doesn't get done.
