About this property

Tucked away in the winding streets that make up the ancient quarter of Totnes and in the shadow of the church, is this truly delightful and tastefully furnished cottage. Built into the original Saxon fortifications that surround Totnes castle, 4 Ramparts Walk has its origins in the Norman period, becoming a house during the late 17th century. This hideaway has a spacious lounge with a woodburner set in a stone fireplace, providing a cosy and relaxing environment in either winter or summer. A door from the lounge opens onto a secluded sunny walled garden, with brick paving, a host of pots adding splashes of colour and a wisteria climbing up the steps to the garden entrance. Two bedrooms accommodate up to 4 guests, with the master bedroom having wonderful views over the town. Totnes itself is an eclectic mixture of bohemian exuberance and traditional Devon market town, even possessing its own currency and it is easy to lose oneself for hours by meandering through the narrow streets. Each turn reveals another pleasant surprise, be it a traditional inn, a diverse range of restaurants or another small shop specialising in the unusual. We think that this is an ideal romantic retreat for couples or a comfortable base for a small family wishing to explore the delights and sandy beaches of this lovely area of Devon and we recommend it very highly.

Accommodation:

Front door opens into the landing/hallway. Comfortable bedroom with a 4ft bed and large built in wardrobe with shelving. Adjacent to this is the double bedroom with a 4ft 6in bed with a cast iron bedstead, a small chest of drawers and double windows that flood the room with early morning light. The family bathroom is equipped with a bath (shower over with shower screen), hand basin and WC. Stairs lead down to the spacious, light and airy lounge/diner. The dining area has a large dresser and a dining table with seating for 6 that looks out to the courtyard. The lounge area has a 3 seater sofa, a cane chair, a Scandinavian reading chair, a woodburner stove, 32” flat screen TV, DVD and radio. The well equipped galley kitchen at the end of the cottage has plenty of storage, a gas hob and oven, fridge and freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer and microwave.

Outside:

A pretty walled courtyard provides an ideal spot for early morning coffee whilst planning the day's activities, a pleasant place to relax whilst reading, sipping that welcome aperitif or al fresco dining during the summer and has a garden table and chairs for 4 people. Stairs lead up to the garden entrance onto the walkway. The cottage is only approached by this pedestrian walkway.

Parking:

Garage parking for one medium sized car approx. 200 yards from property, just past the Guildhall, so a very pleasant walk (please bear in mind that Totnes is built on a hill and so 100 yards of this walk is uphill). It is also possible to park a small car in front of the garage.
