Guests consistently praise the Old Armoury Barn for its immaculate cleanliness, welcoming hosts, and thoughtful touches like fresh flowers and homemade scones. The property's central location in Ashburton is appreciated for its proximity to local shops and attractions, despite the narrow access lane. The cottage's comfort, modern facilities, and maintenance are highly regarded, making it a recommended stay for exploring Devon.
Reviewers unanimously mention the spotless condition of the property, with several emphasising the high standard of cleanliness and extra measures taken, especially in light of COVID-19.
The central location in Ashburton is frequently highlighted as excellent, with easy access to shops, restaurants, and attractions. The narrow access lane is noted, but it does not significantly detract from the overall positive feedback on location.
Comfort is consistently praised, with guests finding the beds comfortable and the property cosy. A few guests mentioned a preference for softer beds and fuller pillows, but this is acknowledged as a personal preference.
Facilities and maintenance are well-regarded, with guests appreciating the well-equipped kitchen, modern amenities, and overall upkeep of the property. The mention of a well-appointed barn and the provision of items contrary to the listing details suggest excellent facilities and maintenance.
The hosts' thoughtfulness is frequently mentioned, with guests appreciating the welcome pack and homemade scones. While these gestures are warmly received, it is noted that such personal touches, though common, are not guaranteed for every stay.
Just a short stroll from the heart of pretty Ashburton is the gorgeous Old Armoury Barn. Tucked away in a quiet courtyard, this former barn has been beautifully converted to provide excellent, contemporary, accommodation for four guests. Laid out in a reverse-level style to take advantage of the light; the spacious open-plan living space is simply stunning. All natural materials have been used to create this bright and airy room which has an exceptional quality of design. Featuring hard wood floors and exposed roof trusses, the stylish sitting area with a cosy corner woodburning stove looks out over the surrounding roofscape to the countryside beyond. The large kitchen/dining area is a brilliant space for preparing a meal and has sleek surfaces and a solid oak table and chairs. The ground floor bedrooms are equally stylish and are wonderfully restful. Outside is a small, south-facing patio with attractive wooden planters and furniture, ideal for an alfresco evening meal. Ashburton, a former Stannary town, has a rich history and many ancient buildings. Well-known for its quality independent shops, including an award-winning fish delicatessen, several antique shops and a nationally-recognised cookery school, here you have the best of both worlds. Dartmoor with its tors, rivers and rugged landscape is on your doorstep and here you can try your hand at fishing, pony and llama trekking, climbing and kayaking. Meanwhile, the South Hams offers some of the best beaches in Devon, picture-postcard villages, and attractive small towns such as Totnes, Dartmouth and Salcombe. The South West Coastal Path passes through the region taking in some of the most spectacular scenery in the UK.
Ashburton lies on the southern edge of Dartmoor and is ideal for exploring the moors and the coast. The town has a good selection of amenities including artisan shops and a museum as well as tea rooms, a wine bar and a food deli. Teignmouth, a seaside town, is within distance.

Thank you for the flowers and welcome gifts, we hope to return!

The beds were very comfortable. As stated in the property details the entrance to the is a bit narrow, we put the mirrors in on our Skoda Octavia to ensure the they didn't scrape, reversing into the parking space takes a bit of practice. Mark the owner was friendly and informative about the property it's history and information about local shops and restaurants and other facilities which are all close by . Had a lovely time, would recommend this property.
