About this property

Luton 1 mile. This attractive barn conversion is attached to the owner’s farmhouse on their 100 acre Devon farm in a rural village close to the beaches of Teignmouth and Shaldon. This is an ideal cottage for couples, friends or families, with woodland play areas with swings and a fort and a quiet countryside setting, and is set amongst green meadows. Guests are welcome to wander the farm to explore woodland paths, ripe apple orchards, friendly duck ponds and fields where hens, sheep and cows graze happily. This attractive cottage has a spacious, open plan living area, which looks out across an attractive courtyard through two large arched windows which give a sense of light and space ensuring that families can relax together, cook together and eat together at all times. The charming bedrooms have TVs and views across to the fields and hills. There is a patio garden at the front of the cottage ideal for sun worshipping and enjoying the countryside views. Just a mile down the road is the friendly village pub, The Elizabethan, which won a Taste of the West award in 2015 and has its very own Gelato ice cream maker! The cottage is just 3.5 miles from Teignmouth, a popular seaside town with plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants as well as the beach, harbour and handsome pier. There are many family activities to enjoy as well, including an outdoor swimming pool, skatepark, adventure golf and two miles of sandy beaches. Wander along the splendid promenade to the working port on the river side of town, where you will see plenty of ships coming and going in this fast-flowing estuary current. Looking across the River Teign you can see the charming small regency town of Shaldon, home to the Shaldon Wildlife Trust's breeding centre for rare mammals, along with the well-known beach at Ness Cove, reached through a genuine smugglers' tunnel. Down the coast is the English Riviera, with its micro-climate, tall palm trees, well laid-out municipal gardens and large promenade, lined with ice cream shops and cafes. Torquay is the birthplace of Agatha Christie and so there are plenty of historic reminders of the author, plus this seaside town also provided the inspiration for the classic British comedy Fawlty Towers. Paignton, which has a fabulous zoo and a steam train taking you to the River Dart, is also another day's outing. There’s plenty to see and do whilst staying at this charming cottage.

The historic, seaside town of Teignmouth is situated in South Devon on the mouth of the Teign estuary and boasts a working harbour, sandy beach, Victorian pier, sailing club, diving centre and sea activity centre. The seaward side of the town is known as ‘the Den’ and has elegant Georgian buildings, a large public area with lawns, play areas, tennis courts, a bowling green, and a miniature lighthouse.

picnic table outside the door but no garden or view. Good centre for enjoying the area not far from the main road but very quiet. Julie very helpful and came to our aid when we couldn't work the dishwasher. Don't expect to be in Devon again but would recommend The Cider Barn.

It feels quiet and not overlooked and the thick stone walls mean that it is very quiet. The cottage is so quaint and has all the amenities you'd need, indeed most things seem brand new. It was really useful having the washing machine/dryer as the weather wasn't kind to us. We were there a week and the whole time we felt relaxed and happy. The local pub is an easy 20 minute walk and serves excellent food. We liked how easy it was to get to the place from the motorway/major roads and then the simplicity of travelling to the local beaches. We would have liked a folder of the local beaches, where to park, etc as we didn't know the local area. That said, Julie and Phil were great hosts with advice, when we asked them. We liked the fact that there was plenty of space for the 4 of us - wardrobes and drawers in both bedrooms, plenty of space in the kitchen area and it was lovely to be able to 'move in' for the week and not live out of suitcases, which you have to do with smaller apartments. The cottage does not have a grass area - just the picnic bench area shown on the photos but you can roam the farm and there is a swing/slide area. Overall, we were delighted with the accommodation, the area and facilities nearby. A great place for a week of relaxation and sunshine. The kids are pleading for us to rebook for next year!
