Nestled within the heart of Northlew, a chocolate box village in Devon is Becket's Barn, a sympathetically-restored, reverse-level barn conversion. Resting paces away from the village pub, whilst within driving distance of Dartmoor National Park, Becket's Barn offers a fabulous base for a rural getaway, inviting for guests. Within the courtyard of a medieval farmhouse, the accommodation boasts two off-road parking spaces, a hot tub for the exclusive use of guests, a private dining terrace, and a snug seating area complete with firepit for nights spent under the starry sky. Step indoors to be greeted by a stunning, spiral staircase, guiding you up to the open-plan living space, adorned with hand-crafted oak roof trusses, and a contemporary interior. Use this space to prepare delicious meals in the sleek kitchen, dine as a four, and unwind upon the Chesterfield sofas, selecting between the Smart TV and projector for entertainment. Step out onto the balcony to take in the breath-taking views across the beautiful ancient churchyard whilst you dine alfresco and toast to your getaway to the accompaniment of glorious birdsong. As the sun sets, retreat to the ground floor where you'll find two, well-appointed double bedrooms, both featuring exposed stonework, plush bedding, and decadent en-suite shower rooms, providing plenty of space to refresh and unwind. Come morning, head to the neighbouring market town of Hatherleigh to stock up on supplies at the Co-Op, before you travel to nearby Okehampton to tour the Museum of Dartmoor Life, discover the remains of Okehampton Castle, practise your swing at Okehampton Golf Club, or hike around the landscape of Meldon Viaduct. Head for the national park, brimming with beauty spots, with the Black-a-Tor Copse National Nature Reserve ready to be explored, or follow the walking trail up to Higher Tor for picturesque, elevated views across the county. Pay a visit to Lydford, where you can stroll around Lydford Gorge, with the Devil's Cauldron Trail recognised as a favoured route to follow, resting alongside River Lyd, or opt for a more leisurely activity by visiting Lydford Gorge Alpacas, before returning home for sundowners. If you're celebrating a special occasion, round off your break with a chauffeur-driven evening out in the owners’ beautiful classic 1947 Riley RMA car to dine at one of the fine local pubs or restaurants before heading back to Becket’s for a night cap on the balcony. Escape to rural Devon at Becket's Barn.
On the border of Dartmoor, in Devon, is the village of Northlew. A charming main square with traditional, thatched buildings surrounds it, whilst off the square are a pub, a helpful community shop, and a Post Office. The village, which consists of cob and thatch houses located in the centre of rural Devon, is 5 miles west of the historic town of Hatherleigh. Hatherleigh is a great central position for the coast-to-coast, long-distance track, which includes the well-known Tarka track, and is located in the Torridge Valley, approximately seven miles from the boundary of the Dartmoor National Park. What a fantastic cottage this is! After 20+ years of renting cottages in the UK I can honestly say this one is the best. A very friendly welcome to a very comfortable cottage, build by the owners themselves. A well equipped kitchen and living room. Both bed- and bathroom were absolutely top. This is a 5 star accommodation with its own cinema thanks to a very large screen with beamer.

The property is a sympathetically restored barn, done to the highest standards with some great views from the front balcony and was very comfortable. The added bonus of a hot-ish tub is great feature, we used it twice it didnât ever get over 31deg even though we had been told it was set at 35⦠We were disappointed that the listing has not been updated because the shop has been closed for a year, which meant getting in our car for a 20 minute drive. The owners Sean and Wenna have good intentions though and he is a nice guy, an initial teething issue with the property not being ready was handled well by him. He also offered to drop us to a local pub for dinner in his vintage car which he would book on our behalf. However this also went wrong because no food was being served on the night we wished to go, we were told this with only an hours notice clearly showing the booking had not been made previously.. he did however offer to drive us out another night and try something else but we declined. Overall we are glad we stayed but for those that want a shop locally look elsewhere because the listing is inaccurate.

We had such an amazing time and will recommend and come back too! Our only constructive feedback is that it was a little bit dusty in the bedroom and maybe to look into providing bathsheets rather than towels as we found the towels were a little small. Bath sheets tend to be more size exclusive. 10/10 hosting. Loved the scones when we arrived, beautiful touch. Stunning decor and scenery
