Downside Cottage in Beaminster offers a tranquil farm experience with stunning views and local wildlife. Guests appreciate the peaceful setting, friendly hosts, and the opportunity to engage with farm life. The property serves as a comfortable base for exploring Dorset, with some noting the need for minor improvements and additional cleaning.
Cleanliness received mixed reviews. While some guests found the cottage comfortable and clean, others noted issues with cleanliness, such as dirty kitchenware and cobwebs, which they addressed themselves. The presence of farm animals and the rural setting may affect perceptions of cleanliness.
The location is highly praised for its beauty and tranquility on a working farm, offering stunning views and proximity to local attractions. The narrow access lane was mentioned, but it did not significantly detract from the overall positive feedback about the setting.
Comfort levels are generally high, with guests enjoying the cosy atmosphere, comfortable bedding, and relaxing conservatory. Some guests mentioned an old mattress and the need for more teaspoons, indicating room for improvement in this area.
Facilities are adequate with a well-equipped kitchen, though some guests suggested updates and additional maintenance. The farm setting provides unique experiences, such as animal interactions and milking demonstrations, which add to the charm despite some noting the noise from farm operations.

A self-contained, semi-detached Dorset cottage, a wing of the owner's farmhouse, peacefully situated on a working dairy farm on the Downs close to the charming village of Mosterton, on the borders of West Dorset and South Somerset. The cottage offers well-equipped, comfortable accommodation, with outstanding views across the Axe Valley, as well as a cosy open fire and sunny conservatory, and is a perfect place for relaxing after a day exploring this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Enjoy a fresh egg for breakfast from one of the free range hens, watch the calves being fed or take a stroll along one of the numerous footpaths which criss-cross this 180-acre farm. Visit Beaminster of TV's River Cottage fame, or head south to the Jurassic Coast. A perfect base for a relaxing farm holiday in tranquil, rural surroundings.
