Situated in an idyllic rural spot on the northern outskirts of the stunning Dorset National Landscape, this historic property has been imaginatively updated to provide superb accommodation for up to 13 guests. The property lies just a mile from the village of Chetnole, with its country pub and medieval church, and has miles of tranquil country walks for you to discover. To the north, the characterful market town of Sherborne (8 miles) has a history dating back to medieval times, and offers an array of independent pubs, shops and restaurants, with attractions including a beautiful abbey, an impressive castle built by Sir Walter Raleigh, and the peaceful Pageant Gardens. Exploring the Dorset National Landscape, attractions include Kingcombe Meadows Nature Reserve, the Cerne Giant and the site of the Eggardon Hill Fort, all within 13 miles.
Entering this fabulous holiday home, you will be greeted by a beautifully furnished large entrance hall which makes a charming snug area, with a welcoming wood burner set in a characterful inglenook dating back to the time when the property was a working mill. There are two further lounge spaces on the ground floor. The first is a stunning light-filled space with a high vaulted ceiling, timber beams and exposed stonework. This room also features plenty of seating, a kitchenette and bar, as well as a tennis table. The second lounge has an impressive inglenook fireplace with the original millstone as the hearth. This cosy room features original ceiling beams, a Smart TV, a selection of books, and plenty of seating, with a dining table perfect for celebratory meals. At the heart of the house, the generous kitchen/diner has a handsome central dining table and a wealth of useful equipment, with a washer/dryer and space for hanging clothes in the utility room. From the main hall, a step leads up into a corridor leading through to the first of the property’s five colourful and welcoming bedrooms: a sweet family room with a picturesque garden view, access to the garden, and ample space for four guests, with a double bed against the wall, plus a single bed and a sofa bed (available by request). This room is served by a useful shower room next door. Heading upstairs you will find the four remaining bedrooms: a cheerful king-size room with a handy en-suite bathroom, and three charming doubles – one with an additional single sofa-bed available on request. Please note the bed in one of the double rooms is positioned against the wall. The first floor is rounded off with a light and stylish main bathroom.
Stepping outside, the property is surrounded by extensive grounds, with a charming patio area offering an ideal spot to settle back and enjoy a BBQ on a sunny afternoon. A path leads over to the outdoor swimming pool which is heated to 28 degrees and available between June and September. Exploring further, there are beautiful lawns, pastureland and fields, with woodland walks, and the delightful River Wriggle running through the grounds – care should be taken with children.
