Guests say

Chesil Retreat is consistently praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and prime location near the beach and local amenities. Guests appreciate the well-equipped facilities and the thoughtful touches provided by the hosts, including a welcome pack and beach accessories. While some mention traffic noise and a lack of sea view, the overall sentiment is highly positive, with many expressing a desire to return.

Reviewers unanimously commend the property for its exceptional cleanliness, often describing it as spotless and well-kept, which indicates a high standard of hygiene and care.

The property's proximity to the beach and local attractions is frequently highlighted, though some guests note traffic noise due to its location on a busy road. The balance of positive location features against the few concerns about noise results in a strong score.

Guests find the property comfortable, mentioning quality furniture and a cosy atmosphere. A few constructive comments about room for improvement do not detract significantly from the overall comfort experienced by guests.

The property is praised for being well-equipped with a range of facilities, including a kitchen with appliances and a conservatory. Some minor feedback on additional provisions and maintenance issues slightly impacts the score.

The hosts' thoughtfulness is evident in the welcome gifts and attention to detail, which guests find delightful. While such gestures are highly appreciated, it is noted that these are personal touches and may vary with each stay.

About this property

This stylish home sits on the outskirts of Weymouth, just a moment's walk from the beach. Well-equipped across two floors, Chesil Retreat welcomes families looking to escape the rush of the everyday and holiday in this popular Dorset region. After a day on the beach, wash away the sand in the bathroom before getting comfortable in the living/dining room, turning on the TV or heading to the conservatory for a quiet read. The designated chef can rustle up their go-to dish in the kitchen, equipped with all the essentials for a short break, along with a washing machine so you don’t need to bring your whole wardrobe! Doors open out onto the rear garden, featuring a decked area with seating and table, perfect for hosting alfresco dining. As the night rolls in, choose between two neatly presented bedrooms; the master hosts a king-size whilst the twin is a great choice for children. With the town so close and much to do in the immediate area, you will be able to leave your car and discover Weymouth by foot for the duration of your stay. Pick up a portion of fish and chips and sit on the harbour wall as you watch the boats bob with the tide, or choose locally made ice cream or a gin and tonic from one of the bars. There's a host of attractions nearby; see life underwater at SEA LIFE CENTRE, marvel at the amazing creatures at Sandworld, whilst the classic amusements at Alexandra Gardens are sure to entertain and those budding historians can be fascinated by Nothe Fort and Nothe Gardens. Further attractions include the glorious beach with its arc of golden sand, perfect for a summer's afternoon, whilst walking opportunities can be found along the rugged “Isle” of Portland, linked to the mainland by the 18-mile long Chesil Beach. Chesil Retreat really is the ideal home for a family of four looking to enjoy some time in Dorset.

Weymouth is a year-round resort with attractions for all ages and tastes. Golden sandy beaches offer great watersports, and the gorgeous, bustling harbour offers regular fishing expeditions. Portland Harbour and the mountainous "Isle" of Portland are a short drive from Weymouth. Visit Thomas Hardy's "Casterbridge" at nearby Dorchester, or drive along the coast to Abbotsbury Swannery and Subtropical Gardens. Visit West Bay for views of the Dorset Heritage Coastline.

Being only 2 minutes from the Small Mouth beach and the start of the Rodwell Trail, the position was ideal for a short evening stroll to take in the views of Portland and the beautiful coastline. We walked the Rodwell Trail into Weymouth several times, and recommend getting of the trail at Sandsfoot castle, to call at the cafe in the gardens, going down the steps onto Castle Cove, a lovely, quiet sandy bay, and then to continue round via Belle View Road to Brewers Quay and the harbour, or up through the park for lunch at Nothe Fort. Using the regular bus service to return to Wyke Regis was easy. If we visit Weymouth again, we will certainly consider staying at Cheslt Retreat.

The house is beautifully decorated with a well-equipped kitchen perfect for both short and longer stays. The location is great, with a lovely little beach close by, it is a short drive into Weymouth centre or a peaceful walk following the coastal path. We walked in one morning and enjoyed a well deserved breakfast at the palm house. Guest information with places to eat and visit was very useful and the welcome card letting us know about the fireworks was a lovely personal touch. Look forward to staying again in the future!

There is nothing we can fault about this property. The entire house was cleaned to an exceptional standard prior to our arrival. The owner contacted us prior to arriving and managed to have the house ready an hour and a half early which was brilliant. She also left our 2 young children a colouring book, pencils and some sweets each, not to mention a welcome basket which was a lovely touch. The amenities in the house were perfect and everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The beach accessories also proved a hit with our children. The location of the property was ideal for access to Weymouth and also Portland. We would highly recommend this property for those looking for a clean, well kept home away from home. To put it another way if we decide to have a holiday in Dorset again, this will be the place we will stay.
