About this property

Purnell Manor is a strikingly attractive, large Georgian mansion offering a refined and elegant country home set within exquisitely handsome gardens in the South Cotswolds.

The majestic facade is simply breath-taking, finessed with the characteristic local stone, a pretty veranda offering dappled shade, beautiful bay windows and sumptuously sedate lawns: this is every inch the genteel and rustic English country home.

Acres of gardens range from manicured lawns framed with fragrant blossoming plants, dining pergola, dazzling pool and terrace, as well as ancient trees and mysterious woodlands.

The interiors at Purnell Manor offer generously proportioned, airy and light-infused spaces for a party of up to eighteen guests; ideal for extended family or a couple of families holidaying in tandem. Pristinely equipped, its facilities are peerless, with every little luxury provided and a level of care provided to ensure all guest’s needs are met.

Visitors will enjoy the seclusion of a private home along with hotel-grade services and convenience, such as catered meals, in-house beauty treatments and meal deliveries.

The vibrant kitchen is fully set up for large scale catering, offers abundant natural daylight with views across the gardens and is finished in a chic palette of cream and aubergine. A sophisticated and lavish drawing room offers opulently draped silk curtains framing the bay windows, a grand piano and impressive library.

Purnell Manor blends old-school charm and period features with eclectic design touches and splashes of contemporary verve! With that quintessential English eccentricity, guests will enjoy vivacious group meals at the long and refined dining table, offset by vivid aqua toned walls, regal gilded frames and oil paintings. Whether it be an informal snack, or a post walk meal, this is a true country “pile,” with ample historical attraction as well as modern day, state of the art comforts, including the entertainment options, cinema room and range of downtime facilities.

Sumptuous bathrooms offer tasteful luxury with stunning free-standing bath for a boutique hotel feel. The lavish and opulent fuse with the modern and sleek in this unique home. Each bedroom has its own accents of colour, printed fabrics or wallpaper, whether it be smart checks or pretty florals; pin stripes or accents of powder blue or regal reds, this home is full of quirky charm and individual style.

Purnell Manor can accommodate eighteen guests across nine well-appointed double bedrooms, an additional eight single beds can be added into various bedrooms. In total, the home can accommodate up to twenty-six guests, eighteen adults and eight additional children.

Whether it be entertaining as a group, a warming family meal prepared on the Aga, or cocktails after a game of croquet beside the elegant fountain, this rambling home offers sumptuous Georgian architecture, stunning period fireplaces, cosy yet chic bedrooms - a true retreat from the bustle of modern-day living - within a calm spot in the heart of the Cotswolds.

Purnell Manor is nestled in a rural spot close to the town of Dursley, in the heart of one of England’s most attractive spots: The Cotswolds.

Surrounded by hills, and sitting on the Cotswold Way, the charming market town of Dursley offers lovely walks with breath-taking views. Walkers will be in their element - there is even a Walking Festival every October. The Lantern Way is an exquisite fourteen-mile circular walk taking in Dursley and the villages of Coaley and Uley. Some of the walks offer panoramic views over the River Severn and beyond.

The golf course on Stinchcombe Hill has been described as one of the most scenic in Europe.

The town itself is located in a wooded valley under the Cotswold escarpment. At the heart of Dursley is the delightful eighteenth century market house, which is also the Town Hall. A variety of small shops, cafes and pubs in Dursley includes the award-winning Old Spot pub, and a bustling farmer’s market on the second Saturday of every month.

Providing the ideal base for country pursuits, guests have the option of clay pigeon shooting, or adrenaline junkies will enjoy the local Xtreme Sports centre or Cotswold Water Park for a spot of white-water rafting or swimming in the rapids!

The area is rich with cultural interest and history. A visit to nearby Uley Bury is one of the finest examples of a promontory fort in Britain. Close by is Hetty Pegler’s Tump, a communal burial mound dating back to the Neolithic period. Twinberrow Woods is home to the Dursley Sculpture & Play Trail, featuring unique works by local groups and artists.

We had hired Purnell Manor ten years ago for an anniversary celebration and had no hesitation in doing the same in July this year. The house is beautiful throughout and the hosts were welcoming and helpful in every aspect of our stay. They were unobtrusive but always available if needed should things not go to plan. We had a minor problem with a faulty alarm which was immediately fixed with no impact upon us and our guests. It was hard to leave this wonderful house at the end of our stay, a comment that was made by all our guests. I can truly recommend it.

We could not wish for a better house for the weekend. The property was so impressive and very well equipped. It was spacious and so clean and little touches were amazing. The best part of the house was the outdoor space and the pool and hot tub which was heated and very clean. The hosts were amazing and really made the stay so special and were always on hand to answer any questions. I would definitely come back here as it’s perfect for any occasion.

Very large, spacious house and fantastic grounds. Lots of room inside and out for us to spread out. Facilities excellent. We made good use of hot tub, pool and table tennis tables and the young ones enjoyed the kids play area. Easy access to Cotswolds Way path. Although the property is on the edge of Dursley, the grounds are large, giving the impression that you are almost in the countryside.
