Garden View has a hot tub and rests in a lovely position surrounded by its own land in the lower slopes of the Blackdown Hills, just moments away from Wellington town centre, in Somerset. This picture-postcard, thatched cottage provides ground-floor accommodation with extensive beautiful countryside walks from the door of the property. With private parking on the large driveway and spacious gardens laid to lawn, it is the ideal location for two couples or a family looking to escape to the country. Dating back to the 15th century, this Grade II listed property can be enjoyed at any time of the year and offers bundles of character to those who admire beamed ceilings and inglenook fireplaces within a charming farmhouse setting. Allow yourselves to relax in the living room with the toasty electric fire warming your feet as you sip a hot beverage, just what you need after your journey and unpacking of bags. Once you are settled, use the kitchen to rustle up some delicious meals to be had around the dining table or choose to dine out at one of the restaurants just a car’s ride away in the town. You can catch your rest at any time during your stay in one of two bedrooms, each as beautifully decorated as the next, one with an en-suite wet room, while the other enjoys a separate shower room. Perhaps, at the end of an adventuresome day, you may wish to relish the bubbles of the hot tub while you listen to the sounds of nature. The nearest pub and shop can be found on the outskirts of Wellington town centre, in an area known as Chelston Heath, ideal for when you are staying in this lovely countryside location. Wellington town however, offers many more things to do including a visit to its local museum or a delightful saunter through its park, which is home to restored Edwardian, landscaped gardens. You could venture out to see the Wellington Monument of an afternoon or even take a trip to the Cothay Manor and Gardens in Stawley, a grade I listed medieval house built around 1480. Culmstock Beacon is also a must while you are in the area and if you like taking a journey back through time. This beehive-shaped structure was once used for lighting fires to warn of any advancing enemies during the Elizabethan era. It is also a wildlife haven and offers mesmerising views across the English landscape, especially during those late summer months when the bell-heather is in full bloom. Taunton is another beautiful town nearby with amenities galore as well as its charming Tudor architecture and a 10th century monastery to visit. Those who love getting outdoors can enjoy the wilderness and tranquillity Quantock Hills can offer as well as walking and riding in the Blackdown Hills, with East Devon AONB also further south waiting to be explored. There are also some wonderful seaside locations around 20 miles away if you fancy a coastal breeze to blow away the cobwebs and the sounds of waves crashing against sandy beaches. Garden View is the ideal place to stay for a bit of everything, a fabulous destination to base your next getaway in Somerset.

An unique thatched property which could have come from a picture postcard. Only one query what is the breed of the five chickens that wander around the front lawn in the morning?

Lots of space and loads of storage in the kitchen, bedrooms and living room. The weather turned colder, we were concerned that previous reviews had said that the cottage was cold, this wasnât our experience at all, we were toasty warm throughout the cottage. Fred checked with us to see if we were warm enough and if we needed the heating turning up more, which we didnât. The hot tub, under a very starry sky, was wonderful after a busy day. Being close to the Devon boarder, it was great for us visiting family in Devon plus exploring Somerset coast and attractions (including the West Somerset Railway). Weâre already planning our return to such idyllic surroundings.
