West Wind, Porlock, is a highly praised cottage, celebrated for its stunning views, peaceful setting, and cleanliness. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, comfortable furnishings, and thoughtful touches like complimentary cake and milk. Its location is ideal for exploring Exmoor and enjoying local walks, though it may not suit those with mobility issues due to steps.
The cottage receives consistent acclaim for its spotless condition, with multiple guests highlighting its cleanliness. One isolated mention of a cleanliness issue with the microwave prevents a perfect score.
The location is highly valued for its stunning views and proximity to local attractions. The peacefulness and wildlife sightings add to its charm. Accessibility concerns due to steps and hilly terrain are noted.
Comfort is a standout feature, with guests frequently mentioning the comfortable beds and cosy atmosphere. The quietness of the area contributes to a restful experience.
Facilities are well-regarded, with a well-equipped kitchen and ample entertainment options. Some minor feedback on maintenance, such as garden upkeep and saucepan condition, slightly affects the score.
Guests often express gratitude for the thoughtful gestures, such as the provision of cake, tea, and milk upon arrival. However, as these gifts are subject to change and not guaranteed, the score reflects this.
West Wind in Porlock is situated in a delightful location on the edge of the village and off a private no-through road. It is positioned to take full advantage of the wonderful views over farmland, the marshes and to the coastline. West Wind sleeps up to 6 guest in three bedrooms.
Entrance to the property is via a porch with space for shoes, boots and hanging coats, then into the sitting room with two sofas and chair, and realistic 'electric wood burner', which provides heat as well as cosy orange flames. Smart TV and DVD player.
There are two downstairs bedrooms off the lounge. The front bedroom (with hill and sea views) has zip-link beds which can be made into a double bed (super-king size) or twin beds, this bedroom will be made up as a double bed unless otherwise requested at time of booking. The second ground floor bedroom has twin beds.
At the far end of the sitting room is the dining room, again with lovely hill and sea views.
The stairs lead from the dining area to the first floor where there is a third double bedroom (King-size bed) with panoramic hill and sea views and an en-suite bathroom, comprising bath, toilet and hand basin.
All three of the bedrooms have a hanging rail which can accommodate at least a dozen hangers each and all bedrooms have good-sized chests of drawers.
From the Dining Room is the shower room (comprising large walk in shower, toilet and hand basin) and the modern Kitchen which is at the rear of the property and fitted with all new appliances.
The external door from the kitchen opens onto a covered area, idea for storing boots, etc.
There is a warm utility/boiler room to the rear which is perfect for hanging wet coats. Also in here is the washing machine and a Belfast sink with shower attachment (perfect for washing off small muddy dogs). Outside tap.
A travel cot and high chair are stored in the loft space (eaves storage) accessed from a door on the landing.
There are books, DVD's and games for all ages.
Heating and electricity is included in the price of your accommodation. Wifi is available at no extra cost.

The house is in a superb location, with amazing views across Porlock Hill and over Porlock Marsh to the sea (and Wales). Being on a small private road off the A39 it was quiet, and with few street lights the stars in the dark skies were amazing. The accommodation and facilities were comfortable. G.... Guests should be aware there is a steep flight of steps from the parking area to the house.
