Clock Tower Cottage in Wiltshire is highly praised for its spaciousness, immaculate condition, and beautiful, quiet location. Guests appreciate the secure paddock for dogs, the proximity to walks and country pubs, and the helpfulness of the owners. While most reviews are positive, a few mention issues with cleanliness and maintenance.
The majority of guests found the cottage to be immaculately clean, contributing to a high cleanliness score. However, one review citing issues with cleanliness in the kitchen and lounge area slightly lowers the score.
The location is consistently described as beautiful, quiet, and convenient for walks and local amenities, leading to a high score. The presence of nearby train tracks is noted but does not significantly detract from the overall positive feedback.
Guests find the cottage comfortable, with a spacious layout and large bedrooms. The presence of a downstairs bedroom with en suite adds to the comfort level. A single mention of a damp basement room slightly affects the score.
Facilities are generally well-regarded, with the cottage being well-equipped and offering a secure paddock for dogs. Some negative comments about maintenance and furniture condition impact the score.
While the reviews reflect the owners' helpfulness and the provision of local information, there is no mention of gifts or special thoughtful touches that could be quantified in this category. Therefore, the score is set to null.
This delightful cottage is set in the grounds of the owner's cottage in a rural location near the canal side village of Great Bedwyn on the Kennet and Avon Canal. The cottage has been lovingly and imaginatively converted to create holiday accommodation of a very high standard in beautiful Wiltshire countryside. On the ground floor are a superb fitted kitchen and an impressive sunny conservatory sitting and dining room with views across the owner’s three-acre paddock, woodland and impressive countryside. There are two bedrooms on the ground floor, plus the ingenious use of space has meant that the spacious and luxurious master bedroom suite has been tucked into a space on the lower ground floor. This room benefits from a further sleeping area with a sofa bed, as well as an en-suite shower room, all cleverly ventilated by full warm and cold air conditioning. The cottage has its own private patio area as well as shared access to a three-acre paddock, a wonderful area for exercising the dogs. Just a short walk takes you to the tow path of the lovely Kennet and Avon Canal, where you can walk for miles admiring the colourful narrow boats as they leisurely chug their way through the picturesque Vale of Pewsey. Locally, visit the Crofton Beam Engines, the world's oldest working beam engines, which regularly hold 'steam up' days, when visitors from far and wide come to admire the magnificent machinery. Take the short drive to Savernake Forest and spend time strolling along the forest trails or enjoy browsing the antiques in the Hungerford Arcade. The nearby historic town of Marlborough is just a short drive away and offers a vast array of interesting shops and restaurants. Should you tire of all this, then drive to regal Bath or ancient Salisbury, both of which are easily accessible. A superb, rural Wiltshire escape at any time of the year.

Plenty of storage in every room. The added bonus was the dog proof paddock, excellent for our very energetic spaniel! We visited four National Trust properties Ashdown Hunting Lodge, Basildon, Lacock Abbey and Mottifont as well as Crofton Beam Engines. A walk to Great Bedwyn was also enjoyed. The railway line didnât bother us.
Anita
We were greeted by the owners, who were lovely and gave us directions to walks etc.. The large fully enclosed paddock was perfect for the dog. There are many walks from the property including my favourite, along the canal to the village, stopping at the post office to buy freshly baked cakes! It was a perfect break.
Margaret
There was no heating in the shower room so nowhere to dry towels. There seemed to be a lot of activity in the night in the roof scampering and also in the floor above the downstairs bedroom.
