Bring one canine companion with you, between the months of January and April, to stay in this rural lodge with a bright open-plan layout and a unique triangular glass entrance. Fill your time with romantic strolls through the Brecon Beacons National Park, cosy pub visits and bonding outdoor activities like canoeing and pony trekking.

Enter the property and find yourself in the stylish open-plan living area with a sofa and a double bed where you can soak up the countryside views through the glass doors. This space is decorated with a TV and has access to the decking. A compact, contemporary kitchen offers the essentials for cooking a homemade meal. Completing the interior is a bright shower room with a WC. Outside, you’ll find a raised terrace with a table and chairs plus a fire pit. You can also explore the grounds containing 300 acres of wood and farmland. Parking is along a 100-metre path, so a wheelbarrow is available to help with your luggage to the cabin.

While staying in the foothills of the Black Mountains, you’ll be on the border between England and Wales, with the historic Craswall Priory just 1.5 miles away. For a meal out or to pick up some essentials, head to Hay-on-Wye (4 miles) – here, you can also wander around the castle and along the River Wye. Explore the Brecon Beacons National Park with a visit to Pwll y Wrach nature reserve (12 miles) or a hike to the 811m summit of Waun Fach from Capel-y-ffin (7 miles).
