Porter's Lodge is a historic and characterful property that has been beautifully restored, offering a cosy and well-equipped stay. Guests have praised the cleanliness, the warm welcome from Father Philip, and the thoughtful touches such as fresh flowers and cake. While some have noted noise from a nearby pub, the overall experience is highly regarded, with many eager to return.
Guests consistently describe the property as spotlessly clean, with attention to detail that contributes to a comfortable and welcoming environment.
The property's location in the Peak District & Derbyshire Dales is appreciated for its historic charm and proximity to local amenities. However, some guests mention noise from nearby pubs and a busy road, which slightly impacts the tranquillity.
The lodge is frequently described as cosy, comfortable, and well-equipped, with a particularly comfortable bed and warm atmosphere. The steep stairs are noted, but they add to the property's historic character.
Facilities are generally praised for being modern and well-maintained, though there are occasional mentions of issues with internet connectivity and kitchen appliances, which prevent a perfect score.
Many reviews express gratitude for the thoughtful gestures such as fresh flowers, cake, and a warm personal welcome. While these gifts are highly appreciated, they are a courtesy and may vary with each stay.

! Father Philip was so welcoming on arrival, inside a cake was waiting for us & flowers everywhere which is a really nice touch. You can here outside noise but not too bad only downside is we had a group of people deciding to have a very loud conversation under the gate entrance at 3am which woke us & the dog, but that was the only downside, would definitely stay again so we can have a proper tour if the abbey

A property full of character and although there is some road noise at times, it felt really peaceful. There is a pub (which offers a free drink to guests staying here) opposite as well as a club. The pub has live music on Friday/Saturday which didn't affect our stay at all. There is a lovely park for walking the dog, Maisie loved her holiday! Suitably located for visiting National Trust and the amazing National Memorial Arboretum. We were welcomed warmly by Father Philip and the milk/tea, cake and abundant fresh flowers were very much appreciated. All in all a great way to celebrate our Ruby Wedding anniversary. â¤ï¸
