Cleobury Mortimer 4.5 miles. This charming holiday accommodation Foxholes Barn has been created by converting the original coach house on the grounds of the owner's home. Their house, The Old Vicarage was built in the 1870s in the rural hamlet of Farlow and is surrounded by breathtaking countryside, situated on the edge of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
On arrival, you will usually be greeted by your hosts Clare and Chris McKnight who live in the Old Vicarage across the courtyard. Foxholes Barn with its stunning exterior, also boasts rural charm inside with oak floors throughout and vaulted beamed ceilings upstairs. In a very peaceful setting, it is the ideal base for a relaxing break.
Step through the stable-style front door into the compact but well-equipped kitchen/dining area, with a new full-sized oven, hob, and under-counter fridge. There is also a microwave and everything you may need to prepare your holiday meals. Just outside, there is a small setting area, which is the perfect sun trap for your evening G&T!
An oak staircase leads from the kitchen up to the bright and spacious first-floor living room with skylights and a window offering splendid evening sunset views over the valley. Here you can relax, and make use of the smart TV, selection of DVDs, magazines, books, or games and puzzles provided.
Also on the first floor is the welcoming double bedroom. The standard double bed is made with of freshly laundered and pressed, pure cotton bed linen, with bedside tables and reading lamps along with other personal touches to make your stay more comfortable.
The bathroom is situated downstairs and has been recently refitted to a very high standard, with a large walk-in shower and heated towel rail. Natural Faith in Nature hand soap and shower gel are provided along with sustainable eco-friendly toilet rolls from "Bumboo".
Clare and Chris keep chickens and bees, and grow their own fruit, flowers, and vegetables so you will find a selection of home produce to welcome you. Fresh eggs, honey or marmalade, homemade biscuits or cakes, and bread are amongst the usual selection. Perfect for a leisurely breakfast or cup of tea, there are always flowers from the garden on the kitchen table to brighten up your home away from home.
Although at present, the annex does not have its own exclusive garden area, guests are always very welcome to make use of the owner's large garden. With its box hedge knot garden, flower cutting garden, fish pond, and vegetable beds, there is plenty to see and many secluded areas to sit back and relax in the deck chairs provided.
For those who wish to explore the surrounding countryside, we can offer advice on the variety of walks to be enjoyed from the doorstep and further afield. With both The Shropshire Way & Jack Mytton Way running close by there are plenty of opportunities to make the most of the outdoors, whether it be walking, cycling, running, or golf that you enjoy.
Cleobury Mortimer is the nearest town, just over four miles away. With its pretty Georgian and Tudor architecture, a selection of traditional pubs, shops, a small supermarket, a couple of restaurants. a small supermarket, a couple of restaurants with takeaway service and a pharmacy. It offers everything you could need for a self catering stay.
A little further at around ten miles, is the historic and characterful town of Ludlow, with a wonderful selection of independent shops, pubs and restaurants. With the ancient castle to visit and a market most days, it is a lovely day out.
There are also many National Trust and English Heritage properties in the region. As well as pretty towns like Much Wenlock, Church Stretton & Leominster, renowned for its antique shops.
All in all, Foxholes Barn provides the perfect base for a relaxing retreat, from which to explore this wonderful area of Shropshir
Cleobury Mortimer is a picturesque little town located at the heart of rural South Shropshire. An interesting choice of shops, pubs and restaurants can be found here, though the town is most well known for its unique church and its quirky crooked steeple. The famous heritage site of Ironbridge and its 10 museums is close by, as are the historic market towns of Bridgnorth and Ludlow, which has an amazing castle to explore. The Clee Hills and the Wyre Forest offer superb walking opportunities, and sports enthusiasts of all kinds are well-catered for with the number of horse riding, fishing and golf opportunities available in the local area.
