About this property

Stokesley 7.5 miles and Helmsley 12 miles. Enjoying a serene setting with gorgeous views of the North York Moors is this inviting, one-bed shepherds hut, Sheep Cote. Resting on a working hill farm close to the village of Chop Gate, this charming and secluded dwelling invites couples, or perfect for individuals wanting to get away on their own, for a relaxing break amidst the beauty of the North York Moors National Park. The shepherd hut is sited on what used to be the old sheep pens where work was carried out on the flocks, hence the name ‘Sheep Cote’ another word for ‘Sheep Pen’. After a day of wandering the local area, step into this cosy and spacious shepherd hut and prepare a meal in the kitchen, fitted with a full size multi function electric oven, 2-ring hob, full size fridge and ice box, so you’ll have everything on-hand for home-cooking. Choose to sit at the dining table or take the evening outside. Enjoy a romantic evening with the pretty festoon lighting and enjoy a spot of star gazing. The North York Moors National Park has been designated as an International Dark Sky Reserve. Head to the spacious shower room for a freshen up before curling up in the king size bed to catch your rest; there is an electric flame-effect stove and wall-mounted Smart TV to compliment. There are many walks from the hut itself which you can pick up – there is an OS map provided - and takes you across hills, moorland, fields and through woods. Including the famous and very popular Cleveland Way National Trail – a 109 mile (175km) walking route. There is a pub within walking distance, The Buck Inn and only 5.2 miles (8 minutes by car) up the road is the village of Great Broughton which offers three popular eateries - The Jet Miners, The Bay Horse and the Wainstones Hotel. There is also a popular pub, The Blackwell Ox, in the very pretty village of Carlton in Cleveland which offers Thai food as well as traditional food. The market town of Stokesley is 7.5 miles (14 minutes by car) and offers many interesting shops, cafes and restaurants. There is also a Golf Range. Another nearby market town, is the picturesque Helmsley, 12 miles (17 minutes by car) and home to many attractions including Helmsley Castle, the National Centre for Birds of Prey, Helmsley Walled Garden, an Open Air Swimming Pool. Through the cobbled streets you can find lots of cafes and restaurants and independent boutique shops. You can also visit the market town of Northallerton (17 miles), again lots of shops including many high street stores and the popular Barkers department store. You can also sample the delights of Betty’s Tearooms! Further afield, is the beautiful Yorkshire Coast which is a lovely day out. You can start at the seaside town of Saltburn by the Sea, onto the pretty seaside village of Staithes and of course stop off for fish and chips at Whitby and climb the steps up to the Whitby Abbey and admire the stunning elevated views. Last but not least, there are many National Trust and English Heritage properties nearby:- Rievaulx Terrace, Mount Grace Priory, Roseberry Topping, Nunnington Hall, Bridestones, Crosscliff and Blakey Topping and Ormesby Hall. Escape the rush of everyday life and enjoy a holiday at Sheep Cote. Note: This property can be booked with Ref. 1025549 Wood Cottage, together sleeping six guests.

Stokesley is an attractive, elegant, historic market town which was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, with many interesting Georgian and Victorian buildings. The River Leven flows through the town and is crossed by the ancient Pack Horse Bridge. Levenside provides visitors with a peaceful riverside walk, well planted with trees, as a contrast to the bustle of the High Street. The town has a distinguished wide cobbled main street lined with Georgian and Regency buildings. It is well served with shops, banks, public houses and restaurants and the weekly Friday markets are held on the main square. Just off the market square is the Church of St Peter & St Paul which has woodwork carved by the Mouseman of Kilburn. Surrounded by the Cleveland Hills and close to the northern edge of the North York Moors, Stokesley provides an ideal base from which to explore the Yorkshire Dales, the heather clad North Yorkshire Moors and the pretty market towns of Great Ayton, Northallerton and Thirsk. Stunning area, views, comfortable accommodation. The owners were so welcoming, friendly and happy to help. They were so happy to chat about the farm and animals, which we loved. The accommodation was spotless. Will definitely revisit.

From the host, the accommodation, the views and the sheep plus some assorted wildlife it was perfect. Oh and not forgetting resident dog Trixie who was a joy. It was the most peaceful place we have stayed and can't wait to return.

We have stayed in a few of these but this was by far the best one. It's very well equipped and comfortable. We had a very warm welcome from Rob the owner, being a working Sheep farm might put some people off, but we really enjoyed watching and learning a few things about it we didn't know before. It is a stunning place with an amazing view and this won't be our last visit here.
