If you're a foodie who maybe doesn’t feel like cooking after a day of sightseeing or if you feel like a hearty breakfast without having to wash up, a two minute stroll will take you to the locally renowned village pub and restaurant.which incorporates a village shop and dog friendly coffee shop. The large garden room, with its spectacular views of the moors and surrounding countryside is the perfect place to sit with a fresh coffee and watch the sunrise over the hills before breakfast, play games with the kids or enjoy a special meal together round the large dining table. Next door is the sitting room, where you can snuggle up in front of the woodburning stove and watch a film or catch up on your favourite box sets.Double doors lead out from the garden room onto a onto a generous patio area with a table and large charcoal grill. Children will love the large garden, ideal for playing with the pets or learning to ride a bike.After a day exploring the North York Moors, relax in the luxury double spa bath then unwind with your favourite drink in the garden room room to enjoy spectacular sunsets, moonrises and indulge in a spot of star gazing. At the end of the day, retire to one of the four bedrooms comprised of three doubles and a twin room with zip and link beds.The twin beds can be converted into a super kingsize and two of the double rooms have their own en-suite shower rooms and sofas for flexible accommodation, offering an essence of luxury as you can wake in the morning to your own private hot shower and have a quiet space to read, catch up on the news or relax away from the rest of the group.Explore the many footpaths and bridleways that lead from the village into the surrounding moors and forests which have been declared an area of special scientific interest due to the rich diversity of plants and wildlife. The Cleveland Way and Coast to Coast both pass close by and with trails varying from gentle forest paths to strenuous hill climbs there are routes to keep walkers of all ages and abilities happy. For cyclists, stages from the Tour’d Yorkshire and Ardmoors Enduro are on the doorstep, so both road cyclists and mountain bikers alike will love the local cycling scene with lots of great riding from the door for both amateurs and advanced riders alike. There are bike friendly local cafes to stop off at when it’s time to re-fuel and there is a secure garage for bike storage and maintenance. When it comes to days out and dining beyond the village, the neighbouring towns and villages have regular markets and fairs plus a wealth of great restaurants and cafés. Why not leave the car at home?

A 10 minute walk will take you to Battersby train station so you can leave the car and go exploring the North York Moors on the steam train or visit Whitby with its many pubs and famous abbey then sample the renowned fish and chips and get the last train home. By car, the Roman city of York is approximately an hour’s drive to the South with the Yorkshire Dales and Lakes around an hour to the West. The East coast with its many fishing villages and beaches is around a 35 minute drive over spectacular moorland scenery. The Lodge is a homely property, perfect for a delightful stay on the Moors.

Great Ayton is a village in the perched on the banks of the River Leven within North East Yorkshire, and just outside of the North York Moors National Park. Hosting a good range of shops and pubs as well as cafes and restaurants, the village caters wonderfully for visitors to this quiet and scenic part of the UK. Delight in beautiful walks, cycling routes and many outdoor wonders, as well as a day trip to the coast to the seaside town of Whitby.
