Fern House in Skipton is a well-received holiday cottage, praised for its spaciousness, well-equipped kitchens, and superb location. Guests have enjoyed the property's suitability for large groups, its proximity to local pubs and walks, and the warmth and comfort it offers. While some cleanliness and maintenance issues have been noted, the overall sentiment is positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return.
The property has received mixed feedback regarding cleanliness. While many guests found it to be clean and well-prepared, some noted issues with dust, mould, and a lack of thorough cleaning in certain areas. These instances seem to be exceptions rather than the rule.
The location of Fern House is highly praised, with guests loving the stunning views, the convenience of nearby pubs and shops, and the abundance of walking options. The picturesque setting in the Yorkshire Dales makes it an outstanding choice for visitors.
Guests have found the property to be very comfortable, with high-quality bedding and a warm atmosphere enhanced by features like a real fire and an Aga in the kitchen. However, some guests mentioned that certain beds and seating could be improved for added comfort.
The facilities at Fern House are generally well-regarded, especially the well-furnished kitchens and the ample space for dining and socialising. Some guests have reported issues with heating, Wi-Fi, and maintenance matters, suggesting room for improvement in these areas.
There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the property owners towards the guests. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score for this category.
This superb, wonderfully-styled country house, with a date stone reading 1657, is situated overlooking Kettlewell Beck in the village of Kettlewell, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This outstanding Dales cottage was the blacksmiths to the Racehorses Coaching Inn, and the nearby Bluebell Inn was used as its stables. Now, this impressive, stone-built property is split into a main house and an annexe, combining to provide seven delightful bedrooms, two dining kitchens, a separate dining room, three bathrooms and three reception rooms. There is also a useful utility room where you can store walking boots and equipment, plus enclosed gardens are situated to the front and back. With no expense spared during the propertys renovation, Fern House has been thoughtfully converted to provide superb facilities, modern styling and elegant furnishings, while retaining the immense character and charm of the original dwelling. The main part of the house features a spacious sitting room with a woodburning stove and patio doors to the enclosed rear garden, while the kitchen has a lovely warming AGA, a small dining area and a TV. There is a separate dining room, with the addition of a pull-out table, and five well-laid out bedrooms, the master of which houses a king-size bed and modern en-suite. The annexe is attached to the main house, and can be accessed through a lockable door via the master bedroom, or its own entrance. It is ideal for members of the group who like a little privacy from time to time, and enjoys a lovely, cosy sitting room with a woodburning stove of its own, plus a modern kitchen diner, two lovely bedrooms and a bathroom. In a most enviable location, with wonderful views of the surrounding fells, the property overlooks the village hall in Kettlewell, where the opening scenes from the much-loved film Calendar Girls were filmed. The village holds a charm all its own, full of beautiful, old stone buildings and Kettlewell Beck meandering through the centre, on its way to join the River Wharfe. Fern House is in a fabulous location for a group of friends or family to get together, home to three of the finest, award-winning pubs in the Yorkshire Dales. With outstanding views and walks in every direction, this is one not to be missed!
Nestling at the foot of Great Whernside, near the head of Upper Wharfedale, the idyllic village of Kettlewell makes the perfect place from which to explore the wonderful scenery and pretty villages of this magnificent Dale.

Thank you for making a birthday weekend near perfect !!

Iâd expect a 3pm check in for the price. The check out time was really unacceptable, we ended up heading home the night before rather than face such a rush in the morning. Surely a window of 11am to 3pm is sufficient time to clean and ready the property for the next guests.

Had an issue and needed the maintenance person who didnât return our call. Well stocked kitchen, clean bedding and bathrooms. House was very warm thanks to the Aga.
