A charming upside down semi-detached cottage, renovated from old farm buildings, located in the beautiful old village of East Witton, three miles from Middleham in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This lovely old cottage, set next to the owners' home and stables is ideal for a romantic break, or for a small family wanting to get away from it all and enjoy Dales life at its very best. This delightful cottage is located down a narrow lane just off the village green, overlooking a working stable and attached paddock, and is a great base with good views of the surrounding Dales, and anyone with a love for horses will be enchanted by the location. The cottage has accommodation built upside down to take advantage of the countryside setting. Park outside the cottage and walk in where you will find the two ground floor bedrooms, both set up with contemporary furnishings and wrought iron beds, together with a family bathroom. Upstairs, the cosy sitting room offers comfortable seating, and a small dining area leads through to a modern kitchen, ideal for preparing the day’s picnic before setting out for a trek across the nearby moors. An excellent award-winning pub is just a three minute walk from the cottage, and serves excellent real ales with a reputation locally of being one of the best gastro pubs in the area, with a good selection of other award-winning pubs also within the area. The amenities of Middleham are just a short drive away, and include excellent old pubs and local restaurants, as well as a well-stocked general store and imposing castle. Superb walking can be enjoyed locally by those after a more active break, with the challenge of Penhill a particular favourite. The market towns of Richmond, Leyburn and Hawes are all within easy reach, whilst the ever-popular towns of Skipton, Grassington and Kettlewell can be accessed driving over t'hill. For those looking for a something a little bit different, this cosy cottage is the right choice.
The pretty and ancient Wensleydale village of East Witton is situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, between Jervaulx Abbey and Middleham, the area famous for its race horse training. A traditional old village made up of stone-built cottages and farmhouses, with a wonderful village green running the entire length of the main high street. To the west of the village lies some of the most beautiful countryside in the Dales with the hidden gem of Coverdale, one of the most beautiful, but relatively one of the more isolated, of the Yorkshire Dales. Coverham at the eastern end of the dale is dominated by Middleham Moor, Penhill and Flamstone Pin. The village boasts an award winning pub, The Blue Lion, a gourmet pub awarded The Good Pub Guide Inn of the Year 2014. The, village which is catalogued in the Doomsday Book, was originally sited along what is now Lowthorpe (which leads to the old church (St Martin in the Field) acquired a town charter in 1307, and a market. During the Black Death, the market was moved to Ulshaw Bridge and died out shortly thereafter. The market was never reinstated. The Earl of Ailesbury, owner of the Jervaux estate, rebuilt most of East Witton in the early 19th century, the houses and gardens in the same places as they were in 1627 according to an old estate map. Jervaulx Abbey was founded in 1156 and was once a great Cistercian Monastery. The Abbey now stands as a charming and atmospheric ruin, open all year round for visitors with lovely tea rooms.
