Hogwarts Cottage in Pickering is praised for its prime location, particularly for railway enthusiasts, and its proximity to local amenities. Guests appreciate the clean, comfortable, and cosy atmosphere, with some enjoying the welcome pack provided. While the cottage's charm is noted, there are suggestions for updates and maintenance to enhance the experience.
The property generally receives positive remarks for cleanliness, with clean towels and bedding noted. However, some guests mention the need for a deeper clean and attention to specific areas like the cooker hood and oven.
The location is highly commended for its convenience to the town centre, eateries, and the steam railway, making it a favourite for visitors. The only drawback mentioned is parking, which can be challenging.
Guests find the cottage cosy and the beds comfortable, with some exceptions where guests reported discomfort with the main bed. The warmth of the cottage is also appreciated.
Facilities are deemed excellent by some, but several guests report issues with maintenance such as the cooker, bathroom fan, and general wear. The need for updates and repairs is a recurring theme.
The welcome pack is a pleasant touch that many guests mention appreciatively. It should be noted that such gestures, while appreciated, are subject to change and not guaranteed.
This charming, stone terraced cottage is a steam-lover's dream, situated opposite the North York Moors Steam Railway terminus in the historic market town of Pickering. With all amenities on the doorstep, it is well placed for exploring the spectacular surrounding moorland scenery and within a half hour's drive of the seaside towns of Whitby and Scarborough. Nicely renovated to a good standard, there is a modern galley-style kitchen and a separate dining room, with a living-flame gas fire set in a Victorian fireplace. The cosy and comfortable sitting room is at the front of the property, again with a living-flame gas fire and boasting a 50" TV. Upstairs, the two bedrooms are tastefully furnished, with quality bedding, the front bedroom looking directly out across to the railway station. To the rear of the cottage is a small, enclosed sheltered courtyard - an absolute sun trap, where guests can sit and relax with a drink and listen to the steam trains puffing into the station. A steam train trip is a must for both young and old, as it winds its way through the beautiful heather-clad moors to the small village of Grosmont. Pickering is known as the Gateway to the North York Moors, and has an excellent array of quaint tea rooms, pubs, restaurants and a twice-weekly market held in the cobbled main street. Enjoy a visit to the Beck Isle Museum, climb up to the castle, or try your hand at trout fishing, all within five minutes' walk. Walkers and cyclists are spoilt for choice, with an abundance of public footpaths and trails in the area, including the wonderful Dalby Forest Outdoor Pursuit Centre, just a few miles away. With easy access to the rugged East Coast and many nearby family attractions, including Flamingo Land and Ryedale Folk Museum, this warm and welcoming holiday home provides an excellent choice.
This historic market town, with its full range of amenities and traditional shops, pubs and restaurants, serves as the official gateway to the beautiful North York Moors National Park. Enjoy a ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway, where Harry Potter fans can even explore some of the locations used in the filming of The Philosophers Stone!
