The cosy sitting room is comfortably furnished, retaining the character of the property and feels warm and inviting, with a cheerful living flame gas fire set into a Victorian fireplace. Both bedrooms are tastefully dressed with the king-size boasting views from the Velux window, over the rooftops to the sea and famous whale bones. The family bathroom has a lovely freestanding roll-top bath, ideal for a deep soak after a busy day exploring the local area. To the rear there is a small patio, where you can sit with a glass of wine at the end of the day and admire the views. Set back from cobbled Church Street, this quaint cottage is just a few minutes' stroll from the town’s numerous cafés, shops, restaurants and pubs, while a two minute walk brings you to the quiet beach of Tate Hill Sands and the foot of the 199 steps to the famous Whitby Abbey. Enjoy a cocktail in one of the harbour side bars, or partake in afternoon tea in one of the many tea rooms. Whitby has much to offer, with long sandy beaches, museums, such as the Captain Cook memorial museum, and the pretty gardens in Pannett Park. Why not book a night time ghost walk, or a whale watching trip? With the beautiful scenery of the North York Moors to discover nearby and numerous coastal and inland villages to visit, Demeter Cottage is an ideal base at any time of the year.
The ancient fishing port of Whitby lies at the mouth of the River Esk and is ideally situated for exploring this beautiful part of Yorkshire, with its superb coastline and close proximity to the spectacular North York Moors. Whitby is a charming and atmospheric town of winding streets and hidden alleys, with a picturesque harbour, safe sandy beaches and of course the Abbey, reached by the famous 199 steps.
