Guests say

This summary has been generated using feedback from guests who have stayed at this property

Westonby Lodge is highly praised for its cleanliness, stunning views, and peaceful location. Guests appreciate the well-equipped facilities, comfortable furnishings, and thoughtful touches like welcome baskets. While some noted the kitchen size and accessibility issues, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many planning return visits.

Cleanliness

Reviews consistently mention the property being spotless and well-maintained, indicating high standards of cleanliness. The presence of crisp bedding and tidy interiors contributes to the high score.

Location

The secluded setting with beautiful views and proximity to Whitby is frequently commended. However, the isolated nature and need for driving to amenities slightly affect the score.

Comfort

Guests find the beds and furnishings superb, contributing to a comfortable stay. Some concerns about suitability for larger groups and those with mobility issues prevent a perfect score.

Facilities

The property is well-furnished and equipped for a relaxing stay, with outdoor space and a well-stocked kitchen. Points are deducted for comments on the small kitchen size and the absence of a washing machine inside the property.

Thoughtfulness

The welcome basket and the owner's helpfulness are frequently mentioned, showcasing the thoughtfulness of the hosts. It is noted, however, that such gifts are a kind gesture and may not be a consistent offering.

About this property

This grand, detached, former hunting lodge property is surrounded by picturesque countryside, with panoramic views of the Esk Valley and North York Moors National Park, in a remote and peaceful location, just outside of the villages of Lealholm, Egton and Glaisdale. Westonby Lodge is a charming sandstone and blue slate roof property in a fantastic location for a family or group of eight guests wanting to explore the North York Moors National Park, whilst also being a short drive from the coast and the popular resorts of Whitby and Scarborough. Accessed via a long, private driveway, there is ample off-road parking for four cars, with an outbuilding that can be used for bike storage, while stepping inside the property, you will be greeted by the galley-style, contemporary kitchen, with neutrally styled decor, from cream cupboards to wooden worktops and neutral tiled walls, it is a lovely space to prepare meals and is fully-equipped with all of the appliances you'll need during your stay, including a fantastic Range cooker. Enjoy meals together at the dining table, which can comfortably accommodate the whole group, before moving over to the sofas and getting comfy beside the woodburning stove and enjoying your favourite shows on the Smart TV, or you can curl up with a good book on one of the armchairs, or just admire the country views from the bay window. There is a bedroom and bathroom downstairs, consisting of a super-king-size double, which can be transformed into a twin room on request, with dual aspect windows displaying the fantastic rural views, along with a shower room with a walk-in shower. Outside, there is a large, enclosed front lawn with bench seating along with tables and chairs, where you can enjoy lunch in the sunshine, soaking up your tranquil location. The lovely village of Lealhom is just two miles away, at the heart of the Esk Valley, and offers a shop, pub, bakery, restaurant and post office for all your local amenities, as well as a number of tranquil country walks through moorland and along the banks of the river.
