Guests say

Broomhill View is a charming cottage praised for its prime location and cleanliness. Guests appreciate its proximity to local amenities and the coast, making it an ideal spot for exploring. While some find the cottage cosy and well-equipped, others note the compact size and the inconvenience of a ground floor bathroom. The property's character and setting seem to resonate well with visitors, despite mixed feedback on comfort and facilities.

The majority of guests report the cottage as spotlessly clean, with only a few isolated comments about cleanliness issues. This suggests a generally high standard of cleanliness throughout the property.

The location is consistently praised for being excellent, with the property situated on the High Street, close to shops, pubs, and the seafront. The convenience and charm of the location contribute to its high rating.

Comfort receives mixed reviews. While some guests find the beds comfy and the cottage cosy, others mention uncomfortable beds and issues with warmth. The varied experiences suggest that comfort may be subjective to individual preferences.

Facilities are generally adequate, but there are several mentions of missing items like a corkscrew and hairdryer, and some complaints about heating efficiency and kitchen equipment. Maintenance issues like a broken heater are noted, indicating room for improvement.

There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts, aside from the property's helpful instructions. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score for thoughtfulness.

About this property

An attractive, Grade ll listed, former fisherman's cottage, situated on the cobble high street in the heart of the picturesque, historic village of Staithes. Dating back to the 1700s, the cottage is ideal for those wishing to explore the dramatic heritage coastline and the stunning scenery of the North York Moors National Park. Carefully renovated, great care has been taken to retain and enhance the original features, whilst incorporating modern comforts in this traditional seaside home. The snug and cosy sitting room oozes charm and character, with stripped wooden floors, beamed ceiling and a warming open fire set in a period cast iron surround, perfect for cooler evenings, whilst the ample selection of books, games and DVDs keep everyone entertained on a rainy day. There is a well-equipped, modern kitchen with a breakfast bar, with the family bathroom leading off. Stairs lead up to the two pretty bedrooms, with the double having dual-aspect windows, with views over the rooftops to the sea. Outside to the front, is a bench beside the cobbles, where you can easily find yourself in the sunshine, spending many an hour people watching. This quaint and atmospheric village is packed with nostalgia and charm, with a couple of local inns, quaint tea rooms and a couple of shops. A short walk brings you to the small sandy cove and coble landing, with rock pooling, crabbing, fishing or simply building sand castles on the beach. Walkers will delight in an exhilarating clifftop walk on the Cleveland Way, which links Staithes with neighbouring villages, such as Runswick Bay and Port Mulgrave, a superb way to explore this Dinosaur Coast. Nearby Whitby is a must with its famous Abbey, reached by the 199 steps. With many independent shops, good restaurants, traditional tea rooms and the best fish and chips in Yorkshire, there is something here for everyone! With many attractions in the local area, including the steam railway at Grosmont, the Danby Moors Visitors Centre and boating on the River Esk at Ruswarp, this lovely cottage is well placed for a varied and interesting holiday.

The seaside village of Staithes is surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides and there is a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. Staithes has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliffside to the sea's edge.

Living room window very dirty, double bedroom rug filthy pictures on wall heavy dust and cobwebs .kitchen cupboard doors full of finger prints wall in kitchen old food splashes, two frying pans covered in grease and rust so not really fit for use.Bathroom traces of black mould round bath, old rusty toilet brush not clean.Bedding on double bed needs to be bigger, extra pillows needed and maybe throws for all beds was very cold .the cottage sleeps four we had two nights only one toilet roll left for us and no hand-wash in bathroom. We have rented many cottages in the village this is the first time I have felt the need to leave a review. We were asked to leave the cottage as we found it bit if a nerve given the state of it .

Suggestions: bigger throws, no orange bags under sink for rubbish?

In a great location and had everything we needed (although a new non-stick frying pan is required). The heating kept us warm once we got used to how it worked. The only downside was 2 flights of stairs down to the bathroom from the main bedroom but we would happily stay again.
