Guests say

Steading Cottage, nestled in the grounds of Craigievar Castle, offers a tranquil retreat with stunning scenery and wildlife. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, cosy atmosphere, and the estate's ample walking opportunities. While some found the seating and beds less comfortable, the location's charm and the property's warmth during stays are highly praised.

The cottage generally receives positive remarks for cleanliness, with guests finding it clean upon arrival. There was a single mention of dirt in the bath, suggesting room for improvement, but overall the standard of cleanliness is high.

The location is consistently lauded for its beauty and tranquillity, being situated within the castle grounds and offering plenty of walks and wildlife. Its remote and peaceful setting is a highlight for guests seeking a relaxing getaway.

Guests find the beds comfortable and the heating efficient, contributing to a cosy stay. However, several reviews criticise the lounge furniture for being uncomfortable, which impacts the overall comfort rating.

The cottage is well-equipped with a kitchen, efficient heating, and storage space. Some guests noted the absence of items like a hair dryer, iron, and bath mat, and there were occasional issues with the door lock and cooker, indicating some areas for maintenance attention.

There is insufficient information to assess thoughtfulness as it pertains to gifts, as no reviews mention gifts being provided or expected. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.

It was a very relaxed journey.

Lovely setting. So peaceful. Fantastic walks round the grounds, especially early morning, late evening. Lots to see and do in the area. Just perfect.

Lots of lovely walks around the property. The location is brilliant, with loads of castles and other historic properties an easy drive away, and the cottage itself is in a quiet and very dark location on the grounds. The staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. The cottage had everything needed for an extended stay, including a washing machine; however, it would have been helpful if the kitchen had been stocked with simple necessities such as salt and oil (will definitely remember this on our next stay, although the nearby grocery store had everything we needed). A change I would like to see is the check-in time: 5 p.m. seems late, especially with check-out at 9:30 a.m. Another minor annoyance was the nonstop emails regarding our stay -- in less than one month, I've received 18 messages regarding this one booking. It's nice to be informed, but this is too much. However, despite these minor complaints, my family and I were happy with our stay and this cottage in particular, and we're looking forward to booking again soon.
