Lochead Chalets are attractively positioned and perfect for young families, or a couple (with or without a dog). Ideal for your first time at Ellary – try it out and you won't be disappointed! The Lochead Chalets each have 2 bedrooms – 1 double and 1 bunk room (full sized single bunks). They have a shower room, and a comfortable living room with kitchenette off. The large windows in the living room give plenty of opportunities to watch the wildlife, and enjoy the views. They all have a verandah out the front too, and outdoor seating. They are especially popular with bird watchers, and anglers.
Ellary Estate offers a selection of eight holiday cottages, along with self-catering chalets and caravans to suit all needs and budgets. The cottages themselves can accommodate two to eight guests or larger parties if multiple properties are rented together.
The estate is in an enviable position occupying most of the peninsula formed between Lochs Caolisport and Sween. Guests have freedom to explore the estate and relax in this peaceful setting or use the accommodation as a base from which to explore the area and its attractions between Glasgow and Fort William or further afield for the adventurous!
With views of Islay and Jura from the west coast of the peninsula and Loch Fyne from the east coast, the surrounding scenery is beautiful and provides a haven for wildlife. There are remains of ruined settlements, castles, forts and chapels to visit on Ellary and Castle Sween such as Castle Sween itself and the Viking Forts above it, Dun a Bhuilg and Crannaig, Kilmory Chapel and St Columba's Cave.
The estate extends to some fifteen thousand acres and provides plenty of great opportunities for those who enjoy hill walking. Lochead Glen, is possibly one of Scotland's prettiest glens worth exploring. For the less energetic, there are plenty of less challenging walks through fascinating countryside, and when staying on the estate, you are free to go wherever you please.
For water lovers, the water is always close by on the estate and if you own a boat, you should definitely bring it with you to explore the beautiful shores. Castle Sween has a public slipway for launching small boats and for those staying on the Loch Caolisport side of the peninsula, assistance can be arranged to help launch reasonable sized crafts from the shore. There is also a small harbour on the estate for those who prefer to keep craft in the water.
With water all around, this is a great location for fishing enthusiasts with the Lochead Burn for salmon and also sea trout (permit required), along with other burns that can be found on the estates and trout lochs. Cycling is another popular pursuit with quiet roads throughout the estate and tracks to explore and the estate is also ideal for golfers and those with an interest in photography.
Whilst many visit Ellary's to soak up the tranquillity that abounds, many also use it as a base for exploring this part of Scotland's west coast. From here you can take a ferry day trip to Arran, Islay, Jura, Gigha, Mull and Iona. Discover Scotland's glorious gardens including Achamore, Crarae and Brodick; take a nostalgic trip on a steam train and enjoy the scenery between Fort William and Mallaig; visit one of Islay's renowned distilleries to sample a dram or in the winter head off to Glencoe or Aonach Morr and enjoy a day of fun on the snow ski-ing or boarding.
