Located at the top end of Loch Gilp, which opens from the much larger Loch Fyne, the town of Lochgilphead was originally designed as a planned town. Founded towards the end of the 18th century and following on from the opening of the road from Inverary to Campbeltown, Lochgilphead grew and developed after the nearby Crinan Canal was opened, thus improving connectivity across the peninsula. Today Lochgilphead is a popular tourist spot with a variety of shops, cafes and bars. The surrounding scenery on all sides is beautiful and there are many scenic drives to be had to Inverary with its jail and castle and Crinan with the famous canal. Kilmartin Glen is one of Scotland richest landscapes with over 800 historic monuments, cairns, standing stones and circles, and rock art dating back over 5000 years! Visit the Kilmartin museum, an internationally acclaimed archaeology museum and uncover the area's mesmerising history. Lochgilphead and the surrounding area also play host to many festivals throughout the year and whether your preference is for music, food or Highland games, there will be something for everyone here.

    a) outdated and old cooker, microwave and utensils. Cups heavily tea-stained (we scrubbed them before use) b) shower room mouldy; shower door ill - fitting. Old wall mounted fan heater. Mouldy window blind. Shower basin area inside and out - heavy buildup of grey, sloughy mould. c) bedroom areas very small. Bed linen smelled mouldy and damp. d) outside decking area very slippery when wet - no warning signs for visitors. There was a general damp and grubby feel about the chalet which had built up over the years. The woodwork had been heavily painted in an attempt to cover up. Poor value for money.
