This period country home with westerly aspect sits within the curtilage of an 800-acre estate surrounded by the romanticised undulating hills typical of the Scottish Borders & Southern Scotland. On the estate, there is a loch and wild brown trout fishing available in season to residents.
Traditionally furnished with large reception rooms designed and built to entertain house parties, it remains very much in use by the family having been handed down over generations. Offering unfussy, comfortable accommodation for large groups of up to 17 guests; particularly three-generational families. It boasts an enormous number of reception rooms including a grand hall with a billiard table and an enormous feature fireplace. All the bedrooms and bathrooms are on the first floor with a selection of doubles, twins and 5 single bedrooms.
One recent guest described the house as 'spacious, peaceful with excellent amenities and full of character'. So if you're looking to spend some quality time with friends or family in a historic home in the New Galloway area, this traditional Edwardian sporting lodge might be the perfect fit.
The main reception rooms comprise the drawing-room, the sitting room, the dining room and a large hall, all of which are located at the front of the house and overlook the grounds and hills beyond. The drawing room has an open fire, sofa, armchairs and a library; and the less formal sitting room next door also has an open fire, sofa, armchairs and a TV/DVD player. At the heart of the house is an impressive large reception hall which is separated between a sitting area around an open fire with an upright piano and an area that houses a billiard table. At the rear of the building is a playroom which is ideal for children, and a snug bar which is great fun for adults.
The dining room is a formal room with semi-wooden panelled walls, a bay window and dining table which seats up to 18 people. The kitchen is a large room, which is in two distinct sections, being the kitchen at one end and a dining-living space at the other. The U-shaped kitchen section with work-island is a modern refurbished kitchen which is ideal for catering for a house-party. With a traditional AGA alongside an electric cooker and oven, there is plenty of cooking capacity.
The dining section of the kitchen has a table that can seat up to 10-12 people. There is a larder and utility room next door and additional storage at the back door.
